Cleaning the coop after mites & lice?

Thanks everyone! I decided to actually treat the chickens myself, rather than giving them back to the seller at this point. So $45 later I have all the pyrethrum spray, poultry dust, and scaly leg mite protector that one girl (with two chickens) could need!

    My new coop and run

I would have gone with Luke Sky-bock-bock-bocker, but that's just me. :) Good luck with your flock! I saw similar coops to that one when I was shopping around. Good idea to expand the run area with the kennel.

Cleaning the coop after mites & lice?

I bought two chickens that turned out to have scaly leg mites and poultry lice. (So much for beginner's luck!) Anyway, the seller is very nice and has agreed to take them back and potentially exchange them for other chickens from a separate flock. I feel like I should clean and disinfect...

Is this scaly leg mites? (Pic)

:( Thank you. I just bought these two hens last week and they appear to have both SLM and lice. The seller has offered to take them back. Any advice to rid the coop and run of these parasites? How long before I can bring new chickens in?

    Anyone good with hawk breeds?

I'd say from wing tip to wing tip was about 3 feet or so.

    Anyone good with hawk breeds?

I'd love a breed ID on my not-so-friendly neighborhood chicken hawk if possible. I chased him away from the girls so all is well, but I still shake my fist at the sky :old whenever I see him overhead!

    Anyone *not* free range?

I only have two (new to me) hens and we have some bold predators hanging around the wooded area where I live. The girls have more than the recommended amount of space in their coop and run area and it is extremely secure. However, I feel bad when I see photos of other people's free-ranging...

    Cochin Thread!!!

Just chiming in to say that I love my Cochin! I have a blue hen and she is my favorite... quiet, fluffy, sweet expression, and she is just a nice calm girl. I'm hoping to grow my flock with assorted colors in the spring. Curious though, does anyone know why Cochins aren't as popular as...

    Show Me Your Feeders!!

I've loved seeing everyone's creations. Here's what works for me: It's a 2' length of 4" diameter schedule 35 PVC (drainpipe) with a cap on the top, a downspout tie-in fitting on the bottom with a 4" deck post cap attached to the fitting. I drilled holes in the back, put zip ties through them...
