We had a bunch of rats/mice that pooped everywhere with our last flock and had to get rid of them. We are wanting to start over. Will the run be safe if it has been 6 months? Hubby has been adding oak leaves and grass clippings just to keep weeds out so anything there is long buried. No way...
HELP - I messed up trying to syringe into hen and she jerked her head and I think she aspirated liquid. Been 5 - 10 minutes and she keeps jerking her head and coughing and making strange noises. Is there anything I can do?
Vet gave us doxy but didn't sound real optimistic that it would work. She said she can no longer prescribe Baytril. Also gave us
some silver nitrate cream for their feet.
but do I need to worry where dirt comes from? The landscape place does not know. And I know they eat the dirt.
Am I worrying too much? Should we just get the dirt? I don't think all that standing water is great either.
Our 3 yr old bantam rooster has begun trying to spur me sometimes when I put the chickens up in their run. They follow me in as I carry paper plates with food on them. My daughter wondered if it could be the red pajama pants that I wear quite a bit. Is this possible? Or is it more likely...
Have they been on medicated feed long enough to switch them over to the laying feed? Or do we have to feed the laying hens the medicated feed and throw the eggs?
My daughter said the comb is not normally this pink and when the chicken settles it gets lighter. I think she's hoping not roo. (10 weeks old EE chicken)
He/She was about 7 weeks old in top pic. Bottom pic is 10 weeks old. I am concerned about the long tail feathers curving at the top of the tail in the bottom pic. But I will post a better overall pic tomorrow when it's lighter out.
Do hens ever get the curving tail feathers?
Thanks! We didn't want a rooster in the first place and I have children so I will want to rehome him. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't giving someone a mean rooster. We have a bantam rooster and he doesn't mind being picked up most of the time and has never bitten or fought us, but then...
We have an EE roo that was supposed to be a hen. He has been sweet and fun but has now begun to bite when picked up. Is this typical of a rooster, or is he just going to be a bad one? Would anyone want this roo, or am I going to have difficulty rehoming him because of this?
Here is a better pic of the tip of the tail. If you click on the pic and look closely at the end of the longest feathers it looks kind of hairlike instead of smooth.
