Hello everyone!
Had my last flock in Summer last year and now I am looking for a few maybe 3 or 4 pullets for egg laying. If you know of anything going in the Thumb/Bay City/Saginaw area please pm me with details I don't want chicks but would prefer some around 8 weeks or upwards. Thank you and...
Hey everyone, I could use a little advice. I have 5 layers that seemed to go off their lay this last 4-5 days, I thought maybe because its been hot. Today I found a clutch of eggs under a big bushy plant in the yard! I collected them and tried the test of putting them in a jug of water to see if...
I have all the run covered now, and they will only be ranging when I am in the yard, but I thought the same as you, a rooster would maybe give us all a bit of warning about predators, i Wouldnt expect him to solve all our problems, but any help would be good, I would then hopefully be able to...
Does anyone have a nice tempered rooster that they want to rehome? I have nevr had or wanted one before but last night before bedtime one of my girls got killed by a hawk and I am so upset, as are my other girls, they won't come out to play and are very skittish. I have covered the entire run...
Thanks Raz. Im pretty excited about getting the buffs, wanted some for years they are so gorgeous. I see you have moved now, the last time I was on here you were in Garden City I think? We like to visit Caseville often, a beautiful area ☺
hello all! I am back on BYC after an absence of about 2 years, realy missed having chickens, I guess once you have them they get into your blood ☺. I have a little flock again, 6 pullets, one laying so far, but I will be adding to them in a few weeks as a friend is raising some chicks...
Its been a couple of years since i had my last flock, but I found that once you've had chickens it is in your blood! I recently got a little (so far!) Flock of 6 hens, a black Jersey Giant, 3 black Australorp, and 2 ISA. I am just loving having chickens again, even though I am only getting one...
Have decided to get out of chicken keeping for a while, so I'm selling my 7 laying hens, they are free ranging most of the day so I'd like them to go to a setup that still allows for that. 6 of them are a year old and the 7th is 2 years old (her name is Fancy) I have 2 reds (ISA?) 3 Pencilled...
I have 2 broodies and I go in several times a day and put them out in the run, they eat and drink then, and after I'm sure my other hens have all laid I put the broodies out with the others to range and I close the pop door so they can't get back in for few hours, they get a but mad for a few...
She definitely sounds like she's broody! I have 2 out of 7 hens that have gone broody these last few weeks and they act the same, feather fluffing, cackling and even growling!. They only go out a couple of times a day if I don't evict them from the nest boxes.
Still trying to break my broody Pencilled Rock...she's incredibly determined, I really have to admire her . I only have 7 hens and no rooster....this is the 2nd time she has gone broody and the 1st time was barely a month after she started laying for the first time!
oh my!, I never even thought of that....my neighbor has a lawn treatment every year, although I haven't seen them apply it yet this year. Plus he regularly goes around his lawn with other stuff( I don't ask ), and as we live next to a field that is farmed with rotational crops I know they apply...
I guess I must have jinxed myself recently by saying how healthy and fit my hens look after the winter.....now one of my year old Pencilled Rocks have gone broody...again (she did it that for a couple weeks last year after only starting to lay for the first time) and now one of my red hens is a...
