Our hen was broody for about two weeks. Since this is still new to me, I would do some additional research as I am a novice. I just keep in mind that my momma hens know a whole lot more than I do when it comes to raising chicks.
We have had great success the two times we have done this. The hens are orpingtons and they have become quite protective of their chicks. We did introduce them at night.
Thank you for your reply. I was able to diagnose coccidosis in the new chicks by reading the discussion boards in backyard chickens. I wanted to post everything that had happened up to Bruster getting sick. Thanks for the link. I'm getting ready to read it now.
Woke up this morning to Bruster having swollen wattles and neck area with heat. Wattles are lighter in color than normal. New chicks we introduced 8 days ago were infected. Started the Corid treatment 7 days ago, getting ready to switch to the lower dose. All other chicks and chickens appear...
We gave our broody hen 6 chicks last night. When the chicks aren't all toasty warm under momma, they venture out to eat and drink. This is the first time we've tried this. Will definitely do it again.
