    A good vacuum sealer?

We used to use vacuum bags in the past. Until we found and tried these babies http://www.cornerstone-farm.com/shrink-bag. We will never go back to vacuum bags.

How do you get the 'wild taste' out of free range chickens?

That's called a full flavored bird. The ones you buy at the store are barely alive long enough to get any flavor in them. This is what a chicken is supposed to taste like and the very reason we raise our own. Ever compare the taste of pasture raised beef to the industrial grain fed junk! Same...

    Freedom Rangers

We ordered 50 birds from Freedom Ranger Hatchery also and could not have been more pleased. As mentioned Arthur was always day to answer any question you may have. I would highly recommend them if you are looking to raise some meat birds. We raised 50 and butchered at 11.5 weeks. Average...

Keeping chicks with hen, how to handle feeding?

Our experience is just to let chicks eat whatever mama is eating. Layer feed/scrambled eggs/worms/raw milk/ really anything we would feed to older hens. Never had a problem with any.

    need advice on crossbeak chick

This is our easter egger, Lady Gaga - She Was born that way :) She's 2 years old and one of my largest hens. Her cross beak/under bite doesn't slow her down at all. Our feeder is deep and she free ranges a lot.

Turkey poult has a bobble head?!

Jiggy eats and drinks really well, (I sneak around to watch him) so I don't think he's hungry. He seems to be "bobbling" a little more and walking a little more dizzy, almost in circles. Other than his constant head bobble, he's doing really well, same as the other turkeys. I'll check his ears...

Turkey poult has a bobble head?!

One of our Bourbon Red Turkey Poults looks like he's a bobble head turkey! Eating, Drinking, everything is fine... it just bobbles its head, worse when it had it's head down (pecking at the ground or feed) then stands up straight. We named it "Jiggy" simply the cutest little turkey. He has...

Automatic Coop Door Opener: Your Experiences Please!

A couple years ago we installed the auto door from Foy's. We love it. So much that I just ordered another (which should be here tomarrow) for our 2nd coop. If you are worried about chickens getting locked out get the light sensor. I prefer it to the timer since it gets dark at different times...

Convincing someone home slaughtered birds are more sanitary and safer to eat

I hate to say it but your wasting your time. Some people just don't get it. They think that everything in a store is superior to what can be raised at home. They feel that all the government regulations are going to protect them. How about sending them one of the hundreds of undercover...

Joel Salatin a Snake Oil sales man?

I know several people that use joels model to raise chickens to eat/sell. I guess some people think that if they have neither the will or knowledge to do something it cant be done. Some of you are crazy as previously stated.
