Thinking about getting some meaties shipped in, and I'm trying to gather info,. Is this a good time of year, or should I wait? I live in Northwest Alabama. Also does anyone have any advice /experience with shipped chicks, meaties in particular? I've only bought pol birds, or chicks from TSC, or...
I just got an automatic egg turner to go into my LG still air incubator. I'm really excited to try it out. So I'm putting some eggs in tonight when I get off work. I have it preheating now. I'll let y'all know how it goes!
She keeps pushing her big goosey body into the chickens nest box! Once in there, she can't get out, so I have to extract her! I've tried making her a nest box just her size, but she keeps trying to use the chicken box! How can I keep her out of the chicken nest, yet still let the chickens nest...
All my white rocks are in the big girl coop now. Sigh! The ducks are still in the house because I don't have their pen built yet. Plus I wanted to get their "pond " set up. The house seems so quiet now!
Thought it would be interesting to see what your favorite things are about BYC. Personally, I like that there are very few "negative Nellie "types here. Also I have learned so very much! At work they call me the chicken lady! I take it as a complement!
I have a neighbor that has been told repeatedly, by at least three other neighbors, to keep his viscous dog tied up. He has ignored all. Today the dog attacked my best laying hen. (I think she'll be ok.) I've had enough! Animal control won't do anything, because they are so overworked, only one...
I bought a white wyandotte pullet, put her in the coop at night with the rest of the flock. The next morning, she had disappeared without a trace! Not even a single feather left! Any ideas? The rest of the flock isn't talking, but then they've always been rather tight beaked.
I put my "mystery " eggs in the bator, and DH decided he needed to move it. When he did, one of the eggs shell cracked. Will it still hatch? Or should I just get rid of it before it starts to smell? It's only been in there about 5 days.
I just recently got two cockatiels. They are both male, and have been cage mates for about 20 years. Their previous owner passed away, and her daughter didn't want them. I don't know much about this type of bird, so any advice would be appreciated. Their names are Martin and Lewis. Lewis has...
I love my chickens so! My rooster crows are the best sounds ever to me. My girls run to me every time I come near the run, 'course that could be cus I usually have food for them! Even if they never lay another egg, my girls are my babies! Anyone else feel like this, or am I just weird?
To buy / order ducks / geese? I don't want a lot, and I don't want to spend a bunch (budget) ,but I do want best value for the money. I was thinking three geese, and maybe 4-6 ducks?
I'm thinking of adding some ducks to my flock. My question is which breed would be best? Weeder? Peking? Muscovy? I want some that will get along with my chickens. It would be great if I could trust them to eat bugs in the garden as well.
Something's wrong with my silkie rooster. He will suddenly turn his head sideways, then spin in a circle and flop on the ground. He does it several times a day. Afterwards he walks and eats normally. Is it a seizure of some type? The local vet only treats cats and dogs, and doesn't do chickens...
My hens have been laying regularly all year. Suddenly in September, they stopped. I thought perhaps it was molting season, and didn't think much of it, but now it's the middle of October, and still nothing! How long does this last? And when can I expect eggs again?
I had to go out of state for three days. When I left my call ducks were, I thought, two females. When I got back, I went out to feed everyone, let them all know that I hadn't expired, etc. and I noticed that one of my "female" call ducks now had male plumage! I looked a bit closer and sure...
my muscovy babies are having problems. where their feasthers are supposed to be growing in on their backs, (behind the wings) they have been picked so badly that they are bald and bleeding. Separating them doesn't help as they are the ones doing the picking. What makes them do this? is there...
My black silkie rooster was outside when it came a very bad rain. He got throughly chilled to the bone, and was full of mud. DH washed the mud off of him and we are drying him with LOW heat. He is very lethargic, keeps throwing his head back over his back, and I can't get him to eat or drink...
My neighbors are afraid of my sweet turkeys! They are also afraid of the ducks! They want me to keep them penned up so they won't wander into their yard. Ok, it is their yard! They have a right not to have turkeys or ducks wandering over there and eating all their delicous ticks and other...
Got six of the extra Roos picked out to go to freezer camp. Only one of them has a name, but he's number one on the list because he's so mean! So, it will be my very first time, y'all be wishing me luck! I'll post and let everyone know how it went.
