    Tapeworm, Roundworm, Coccidiosis, oh my

Not sure how I missed the Equimax in the previous threads, and my local feed store has it. And it looks like I can do Corid and Equimax at the same time, double bonus.

    Tapeworm, Roundworm, Coccidiosis, oh my

So I noticed some tapeworm like looking segments in an outdoor chicken poop. I took the sample to my vet and this poor girl has tapeworm, roundworm, and coccidiosis. I'm not overly worried about the coccidiosis, as I haven't seen a lot of diarrhea in the coop recently, so I think it is an...

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

I saw it on a previous thread. I'll contact her to see if she wants to do a necropsy when the time comes. Thanks again, BYCers are always so helpful :)

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

For people who find this thread later. I will also try to keep this updated as things progress with Raquel Welsummer. I found a vet to see Raquel. They are almost 100% certain it is osteopetrosis. The only way to be absolutely sure was to do an x-ray, and I'm not that crazy chicken lady. So...

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

Whatever was going on with her neck has cleared up and new feathers are coming in, so it seems that was feather picking based. I've read up on osteopetrosis and it seems to me that this is what she has :( I haven't decided what to do about it yet. Thank you & MasterOfClucker and everyone else...

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

The missing feathers are from my SLW ‘Piglet’ , the chick went for a bug and Piglet took out a beak full of feathers during a supervised yard visit for the Little’s. It really doesn’t look like scaly leg mites in person. I’ll look up more on osteopetrosis. Thanks!

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

No lice or mites. I checked my adults too (except one that just started a hard molt). Nada.

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

Ok it gets stranger. I used a laser thermometer to measure all the chick leg temps, all were within a degree or 2, so that’s fine. The chick is missing some feathers from one of my big girls going after her last week, but I noticed these white bumps on the back of her head. Shouldn’t be Mareks...

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

I don't remember it feeling hot, but I will double check tomorrow when I have light. I just researched MS, and I'll also check for breast lesions.

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

It doesn't feel swollen / squishy, and she shows no response when I push, prod, or squeeze the legs. Edit to add - no respiratory problems, normal appetite for food/water/treats.

Strange legs on my 7 wk old chick

One of my young chicks has weird looking legs. I got her as a day old from Meyer. About 2 years ago I had a brahma that had scaly leg mites, and this does not look anything like that. It started by the ankles on both legs, I noticed it about 3-4 weeks ago, and has progressed since then. It...

Meyer meal maker - 1 week old I'd love to know what she is. I'm hoping buff orp, not white leghorn.

Soft empty shell on dropping board

I'm hopefully worried about nothing, but I want to be sure. So this morning on my droppings board there was a soft shell, looks kind of like wet paper with a tail, see picture. On another part of the board there was also evidence of a slightly yellowish liquid that was dried. These things...

    California - Northern

Um, I can only have 2 more... Choices, choices... Chicken Math strikes again. I'll PM you to see if when you are available to talk/visit. I work in Sunnyvale, so not to far for me.

    California - Northern

Just found this thread :) I'm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, new to chickens, and having a great time. My first post in the group is a request.... I'm wondering if anyone knows of a breeder who sells coop ready bantams in the area (well, within about 3 hours drive of Santa Cruz)? I have a...

Building a run - advice on security, hardware cloth needed

We did put hardware cloth under the stones, and out about 2 feet. The apron hardware cloth is secured to the 1/2" hardware cloth that is on the bottom 4' of the run. The welded wire starts 2' up with a 2' overlap. So from the ground you have: Apron HW cloth overlapped with wall HW cloth for...

Building a run - advice on security, hardware cloth needed

Semi-final pictures. We ended up with: 24" apron (hardware cloth) buried about 3" deep so the dogs won't accidentally cut their paws from the outside. 2"x4" welded wire for the top 6' 1/2" 19 gauge hardware cloth for the bottom 4' (about a 2' overlap of hwc/ww) Welded wire is currently draped &...

Building a run - advice on security, hardware cloth needed

So modifying the plans slightly based on feedback, no hardware cloth on the bottom of the run. I think we will take a 2' section of hardware cloth for a skirt on the outside of the run, buried only about 3-4" deep, that will run under the bottom board of the 'wall' and get secured to the bottom...

Building a run - advice on security, hardware cloth needed

I'm new to keeping chickens, and want to do it right the first time. My coop is built and quite secure with 19 guage 1/2 hardware cloth covering the windows and vents. Now I need to build the real run (temporary run is in the picture below). This weekend (labor day) is the scheduled build &...

Chick attacked, wound care advice needed

After today's incident the little girls are moving back into the storage area of the coop and staying in the brooder until they are bigger for sure. And my leghorn who was the instigator is moving to my friends flock. Right before I left for my appt the Silkie chick was drinking more and was...
