    Beekeeping question - help!

This is my first year wintering a hive and I am not sure things are going well :( The hive seems silent and there is what appears to me bits of comb scattered on the ground outside the hive entrance. Any idea what the cause of the comb bits could be? And is a silent hive gone for sure? I'm...

    Butcher in Indiana

I am looking for a poultry butcher in Indiana. We are in Lafayette, but could drive a bit. We just don't have the time to get to our birds right now. I had heard that there was a butcher in Delphi?!? This Old Farm is too spendy for us right now. Thanks for any info you might have!

    Considering ducks....

My daughter has been begging for ducks for her upcoming birthday. We currently have a flock of chickens, which free range. We don't have a pond, per se, but do have a marshy wetland in the bottom of our woods. My questions are many, but primarily - can I free range and house the ducks with...

    Selecting Meat Birds

I am new to meat birds, though we have been raising layers for a little over a year now. I am interested in getting a batch of meat birds, but I don't think we want something that has been as harshly bred as the Cornish X. I do want something that will grow a bit more quickly than the DP...

I thought you might enjoy this video I made of Australorps and Barred Rock chicks in my brooder coop. This was the first time raising chicks, so I'm very excited about their progress. Enjoy!

    Identifying 2 week old chicks

My order of Black Austrolorp pullets got mixed in with the "freebies" (which also happened to be black!) in our brooder. They pretty much all look the same to my untrained eye. Is there specific identifying feature(s) that will help me separate them? Thanks!

Chick arrived today, but we've lost many!

We received a shipment of 150 chicks today. One was DOA and we have since lost about 10 more. Is this normal? I have our brooder set at the right temp, food and water readily available. I'm not sure what else to do! Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!!

    Broody abandoned her eggs

We have a hen who was a great broody. She sat faithfully on her nest of about ten eggs. Two hatched, but the chicks died before getting out of the shell. After that, she abandoned the rest of the eggs. We moved them to a brooder as soon as we realized what had happened, but the eggs were...

One went broody and they all stopped laying!

We have 4 Araucanas, three New Hampshires, and two cochins, all of whom were laying well at the beginning of the summer. One Araucana went broody a few weeks ago and it seems everyone else has pretty much stopped laying. I get the occasional cochin or one Araucana egg, but I haven't seen a New...
