I want to learn more about Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps and BOxBA

Both breed are great. I have eaten several BO cockerels that were about 20 weeks and they were fantastic, but haven't eaten any BA's. The BA hens lay almost everyday. Out of the 5 I have I get 4 a day from them. The BO's used to be amazing, almost as good as the BA's, but this second year they...

    Buff Orpington Red Ranger Cross

I have a large Old English Buff rooster and several Red Rangers I am raising and I wanted to know if anyone has tried this cross or has any input of what the offspring would be. I would imagine it to be a quite hardy bird, but what about egg production and growth rate? Would this cross be good...

    Sick hen, need info

I have a sick hen. I remember reading a post about a hen with these same symptoms, but I can't remember what it was. For several days I would come into the coop and she would just be sitting on the roost with her eyes closed. If they were open they looked watery. She has a pale look to her head...

    Rabbits and eating their young.

I am new to the rabbit game and was wondering, if one doe has a litter and it's in a pin with another doe will the one without offspring eat the other's bunnies? I have 7 does and a buck and was curious. I know the buck will eat bunnies, but I did not know about other does if they are all together.

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

Well now that we're on the subject, what would you get if you bred a black based cross rooster with a hen? I know if you crossed either with a BO or BA it would be the breed crossed with, but what about the cross over cross?

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

That's interesting, because one of the three I hatched (all buff and black) let out a yelp that somewhat resembles a crow the other morning. Might have just been a squawk, but it's possible. The comb of it is bigger than the others, but I've had hens with the same scenario. I thought the...

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

I had the exact same thing happen 3 hens out of 3. I've heard of cases where Roos were black and buff, but it's very rare. That's why the call the sex link because you can sex them by color. Sometimes some hens mature faster than others and will have a bit larger combs and be larger, that's with...

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

They lay very large eggs. I bought one that was full grown from a lady at a trade day. Not the biggest bird, but later larger eggs than a buff or BA and had about the same consistency as a BA. The ones I hatched out are BA hens under a Old English Orpington and are about 6 weeks old now and are...

    Muddy Outside run

I have the same thing. Either deal with it because the sun will always dry it out again, put a roof over it, or put hay down. The hay won't really help a whole lot, but it will make it look not as bad.

    Possibly worlds tiniest egg.

My buff orpington hens are gaining on 20 weeks now and are starting to lay tiny eggs. Usually I find tiny eggs in the nesting box, but this one, along with one other, are usually around the waterer (my guess is that they tries to poop and it just came out). The egg to the right is a grown hen's...

    Buff Orpingtons Laying Age

My earliest layer started at about 17-18 weeks. They're about 20 weeks now and new ones are laying every other day.

    Buff orpington coloration.

The first is the slightly more darker/red color. She is one of the larger hens of the flock and matured earlier than the others. Though she is larger, several of the other darker hens a much smaller. What do y'all think of her? This is the more buff hen. She is SUPER friendly. She literally...

    Buff orpington coloration.

They are local feed store birds. More than likely hatchery birds.

    Buff orpington coloration.

I have 15 buffs which I have raised since they were 4 weeks old. Now that they are close to laying and looking more mature I've noticed different colorations amongst the flock. While several look as I believe a buff should, a majority of them look as if they have more of a redish color. Is this...

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

I just bought this cross today at a local trade day. The lady said she layed almost everyday and she even layed when an egg when I got her home! She has quail looking feathers and is absolutely beautiful!
