I looked on the forums for other pictures of frostbite and it does look to be early onset. I am glad I caught it early. It is warm, which I think is good. I will continue to monitor... If she starts acting abnormal, I will look into other things. Thanks!
It has been really cold, -20 to -10 for a couple days. Its a bit warmer now, but comb is remaining the same. They have a warm coop though with good ventilation. it is nice and dry. I use pine shaving deep litter and it breaks up like earth as it is supposed to, so I don't think it is humid in...
My 5 month old leghorn is acting normal, save a tiny reduction in eggs/week, has had a sorta tidye looking comb for two days. The colors range from pale pink to almost white to red at times. I checked for live and mites and found none. All poop looks normal. I don't know if she is going through...
Merry Christmas! My Chicks are 4 weeks old today - started hatching on Thanksgiving... last one came out 2 whole days later. All are doing well. I wanted to share my pretty chicks. Any thoughts on sex (I think the white one is a roo) or which ones I should keep are appreciated) I am keeping my...
The bravest chick is drinking but I haven't seen any go over on their own. I dipped their beaks 3 times... When should I start getting really worried? I know they ship chicks and they can go a couple days but I am nervous.
Thanks for any advice you can give. I know I need to be patient. I am on day 21 and 2 of my eggs have pipped. One pipped on the bottom of the egg. I know I am not supposed to open the incubator. The membrane of that egg also looks very dry (it pipped overnight and could have been like this for 7...

No don't toss them away. Lower temps are not as drastic as too higher temps. I would leave them for a few days then candle to see if you have developing embryos. It may just have slowed development down slighly but my thoughts would be not by a lot.
Mother hen gets off the nest everyday...
I had started incubating at 6am today. At 4 the power went out when I was away. It was out for 6 hours. Should I toss the eggs? Temp was down to 72 when I was home :(
I guess I just wasn't thinking how much they could eat. All of a sudden, like in two weeks they just began eating so much more. I have a larger feeder saved on amazon I will get :)
Happy fall weather in Chicagoland - about 38 degrees this morning. It's CHILLY. I have 3 hens and a roo, 13 weeks old. They are eating A LOT. I am refilling their feeder twice a day (just the mason jar size). Is this normal for this time a year? Should I/could I give them anything more to get...
