Two month old duck suddenly immobilized

Thanks everyone. He's still holding in there. I've been giving him water through a little dropper with a bunch of vitamins mixed in, he probably drank half a cup or so today. He can't hold his head up at all, I have to support it for him while I give him water. He's definitely not capable of...

Two month old duck suddenly immobilized

Hi everyone. Today I found one of my two month old ducks upside down in their pen, having muscle spasms/contortions. As well as being crested he was born with a deformity due to interbreeding I would guess, he has a mass under his poof that resembles a second bill. We didn't think he would make...

2 month old duck breathing heavily, coughing, and is non-verbal

Well, I have good and bad news today! Huckleberry seems to be doing better. His heavy breathing is barely existent now, so hopefully either the antibiotics are helping or he is just healing. But now his sister Daffodil sounds very congested and was breathing heavily last night. Huckleberry was...

2 month old duck breathing heavily, coughing, and is non-verbal

How much water should a two month old duck be drinking every day? When he's separated from the others for the day I give him a gallon of water with his medicine in it. He only drinks about 1/4 of it and that makes me worry he isn't hydrating enough (or getting enough medicine!)

2 month old duck breathing heavily, coughing, and is non-verbal

It's been a solid 80 degrees for most of the week, and he has endured a lot hotter, and the other ducklings/their parents seem to be cool enough... So unfortunately I don't think it could be the heat. I wish it was that simple! Thanks for all your help We'll see how the antibiotics effect him...

2 month old duck breathing heavily, coughing, and is non-verbal

Thank you for the info @Amiga , I'm gonna continue giving him the antibiotics for a while and see if he improves. Doing that makes me scared he has gapeworm and I won't catch it in time, but hopefully I'm making the right call. He's doing okay right now, his only symptom currently is the...

2 month old duck breathing heavily, coughing, and is non-verbal

If it does turn out to be a fungal infection or gape worm, do you know how I should be treating those things? I've searched really hard but can't find much info. Unfortunately there are no local vets that see birds, but if he gets bad enough maybe I'll have to take a trip! He seems slightly...

2 month old duck breathing heavily, coughing, and is non-verbal

One of my six ducklings started coughing about two weeks ago but I put it off as him not getting enough water and just choking down his food. But today he has started to breathe very rapidly and heavily and I'm concerned. I also noticed he is pretty non-verbal and unable to make loud noises...

Mystery ducklings, what breed are they??

Five weeks ago my ducks hatched six ducklings, and I still can't figure out what combination of ducks they are! The momma duck who hatched them is the beige duck in the background, who I think might be a buff orpington duck. The possible father is the other duck in the photo, and I think he...

How long can a duck survive without food?

My duck got attacked by my dog last year and he wouldn't eat at first either, but it only took him a day or so to start getting his appetite back. The shock has to wear off a little. Until I could get him to eat I made sure he had plenty to drink, and I also offered him small amounts of...

Duckling is keeping her eye shut

My ducks had six ducklings about four weeks ago and they have been perfectly healthy so far! But this morning I noticed one of them, Orchid, keeping her right eye shut. At first I thought something was just touching it and annoying her, but she has continued to keep it shut all day. She is able...

    Is this a drake feather?

Thank you!! He really is turning out to be so beautiful. I'm a proud duck mom! Yes I will definitely try putting them near each other for a week... They have daily swims together and are ok, but then the one crested duck Barnabas gets protective of the other two crested and chases poor Tulipo to...

    Is this a drake feather?

I sure hope so. I will have to try and integrate them. Perhaps he and Dahlia will still have the occasional supervised playdate. Here are some more photos! His size and flight ability definitely aligns with a Swedish, but he doesn't quite look like one.

    Is this a drake feather?

Ahhh, I was worried that would be the answer... I feel horrible separating him from our hen Dahlia, she is his best friend. They never leave each others side. We have three crested ducks but they are much bigger and aggressive towards him so I can't keep them together. Not sure what to do with...

    Is this a drake feather?

I have never been 100% sure! I rescued him from the floor of a local market. The best match I can find is a Swedish duck, could that be right?

    Is this a drake feather?

I am so unsure about his voice! Does this sound more on the raspy side? He imprinted on the chickens as a baby so I'm really worried about having to separate him

    Is this a drake feather?

So... We have always called Tulipo a he, but kind of knew she was a she (I know, silly.) But now I think he may actually be a he... Which is kind of a problem, because he wont be able to live with his chicken friends any longer! Is this a drake feather? Sorry it's not focused well, he never...

Thought everyone should know Tulipo is doing well! He's back to his old self.

Duck injured and in severe shock

Do you think neosporin is safe to put where he can reach with his mouth? I've read it can be really dangerous, and he is an excessive preener :/

Duck injured and in severe shock

I will run to the store first thing in the morning to look for antibiotics and Epsom salt. I heard they only have injectable antibiotics (which I am terrified to do incorrectly!) or dissolvable antibiotics (which I've heard don't work). Do you recommend any specific kind to look for? I have been...
