Hi, everyone! I've noticed that one of my button quail's nostrils is clogged. Any suggestions on what to do? I've tried wetting it with a wet towel, but that didn't seem to help.
Good news is that she laid another two eggs! And is still eating and drinking. However I found some tiny bug eggs/larvae in their seed (not crumble) do you they would be safe for them?
She hasn't laid since but is still eating and drinking. I was watching her sleep (that sounds creepy...) and she couldn't even keep her head tucked in her wing because her entire body was rocking back and forth, and she would be sneezing too. Or at least I think it's sneezing. I guess I'll just...
She was eating and drinking today and laid her first egg since I brought her home. However, she's still doing that motion with her beak and neck. Should I try just giving her water to help her wash down whatever is stuck in her crop if anything is?
I think that might be the case, because I've seen her pecking at it. It's pine/aspen bedding and I put in some carefresh earlier today. How do you suggest I remove the blockage of that is the case?
Here's a video of her:
She seems to have gotten worse. Now that I thought about it, I don't think I've seen her eat or drink today.
Here's another video after i took her out to check her crop. I don't know what a healthy crop is supposed to feel like, but hers is soft and squishy. I stressed...
I was watching her earlier and I did hear her cough/sneeze a few times. But she seems to be eating and drinking. She has access to grit and water 24/7.
It's not exactly like that, it's more of this:
However, she actually opens and slightly closes her beak with each "pant." It is sort of intermittent as well, and the other quail doesn't seem to do it, so I don't know if it's because she's hot or for some other reason. Thanks for you help!
Recently my female button quail seems to be gasping for air. She's opening and closing her beak but no sound is coming out. Could she be too hot? My male button doesn't do this, but they are in a 20 gallon aquarium that sometimes sits in direct sunlight. Or could she be egg bound? I just got her...
I'm not sure how to just offer just the female calcium as she lives together with her mate
On the other hand, they finally have names: Fritz and Fizz:)
Sorry one more question. Grit should always be available to them? As I do not have oyster shells at the moment, can I crush up a human calcium supplement and add it to the grit. and if so, how much should I add?
They love broccoli and seem to have fun tossing it around. At first they were hesitant about the mealworms, but once they got a taste, they were crazy about them! They are such cute little birds to watch. Still need to think up names for them!
What color would she be classified as? I can't seem to find a match, and I wasn't sure if I should've started a new thread or not from my old thread, so sorry in advancex]
Okay, thank you! They have 24% protein in their feed at the moment, and I have calcium-fortified grit. Do you think that along with crushed egg shells will do in place of oyster shell?
Thank you! That was very helpful! They're adults, but other than falling asleep for a few seconds to a minute at times seem active, so I'll keep careful watch of them. Thanks again!:)
I just got a pair of button quails and they're super scared of me, and sometimes, they'll stop whatever they're doing at the moment and just sort of close they're eyes and maybe rock a little. Is this normal? Also there is a big clump of poo on the male's foot, so that he limps on that foot. Any...
Hi guys! Does anyone know any stores to buy adult button quails or chicks? I am in the Ventura County Region and am relatively close to the Los Angeles Region as well. I'm keeping an eye on craigslist as well.
