I have a 4'w 6'd 4'h coop built with a run off the left side, chicken door at the back left, and the whole front is a door for human access. It is raised 2' off the ground to allow for a larger run area.
The problem is i don't know how to setup the layout for 6 hen, but I need to finish...
We have 3 eight week old Black Australorps. one has a Very developed wattles and combs, one has almost none, and the other is in between. From my untrained eye i would assume the very developed is a male, while the one with little development would be a female. But can anyone help me figure...
Received my horizontal nipples in the mail yesterday. As I have seen on google, i attempted to install them in PVC pipe. No luck. everytime i tried they would just pop out. I was using 1" PVC.
What is the trick?
I'm thinking about putting t joints and fitting them with reducing bushings...
My 9 chicks are 2 weeks old now and I have a few questions.
1) The height of the 75watt bulb being used is the same as the day I brought them home because they have kept a fairly regular sleeping pattern underneath. Not directly under it but in the general area with a distinct open area...
I was at my local TSC and they had 2 unknown breeds of pullets on display. Does anyone know of a visual guide that i could use while in the store to identify them?
My local TSC's are getting chicks this week so this first timer had to put together a brooder. THey are going to have to be in for awhile because here in massachusetts it is freezing and 3 feet of snow on the ground.
Is there anything you think i need to change here. I'm using a 75 watt...
I've seen recommendations for bulbs that range from 60 watts to 250 watt heat lamps. I'm getting 6 chicks and using a 110 qt plastic tub. I was thinking depending on the bulb I could use a flexible neck desk lamp I already have.
So what bulb do you think will do the job? Or should I just...
I'm building a coop similar to this in design. I'm putting a metal panel roof on it, but what would you recommend in for a minimum slope?
I have some reclaimed wood with is 7.5 feet long and a true 2" x 5.75" I think for a cold weather climate even if i pitched it from 5.75 to 0 and cut...
So this weekend I got to raising a structure last weekend. I took some pics this morning before leaving for work. please excuse the mess, to protect everything from the rain/snow I covered it with the thick rubber sheet I'm thinking about using for the floor of the coop. I'm still not sure it...
I'm in the process of building the walls for a 12x6' enclosed coop/run similar to this https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/911139/hidden-forest-coop
The coop will occupy a 4x6' spot on the right raised 2' to allow for additional run space. The front 4' section is south facing, and there will...
I'm designing a Lean-To style coop and run that will be covered with a metal roof that over hands about a foot on each side.
Besides the footings and verticals on the walls where do should I use PT lumber and where can I use the less expensive non-PT lumber?
Would you recommend using PT...
Why is it when I read on the forum and other sites that it is recommended that we have at least 4sqft per bird, but the premade coops usually offer less than this?
I ask because I'm planning a 4x6 coop and want to maximize the numbers of birds that the coop will allow.
I have a 6x12' space on the south side of a garage that I want to put chickens. Design a nice to look at yet simple to construct coop.
Needs:
1) at least 6' tall so I can walk in
2) reclaimed wood for siding
3) reclaimed metal for roofing
4) 6-12 chickens
I have an idea of what I want to...
