This is not a war, and I am not Neville Chamberlain. Roosters tend to cause problems with neighbors, is all I'm saying. Enough said; no need to send me any more messages. I will not respond.
I have read the whole thread. While I absolutely do not condone what the crazy neighbor is doing, roosters can be quite annoying to nearby neighbors. For that reason, many municipalities allow only hens, which is what I have. I just think that removing the source of contention might solve the...
I think it would be wise to find your roosters a new home. Then if this obviously deranged person continues to harass you, you should call the law. It might be dangerous to live beside such a person.
Good advice. Hydrogen peroxide didn't hurt my chicken, though, and an avian vet advised it. I didn't use much, though. Just washed it over the wound a couple of times and applied Neosporin several times. Keeping the ducks calm and quiet is a great idea. I put a tablecloth over the crate at night...
I would be very angry that your neighbor's dog was loose and did this. You might want to take the hen to a vet and have the neighbor pay the bill. If the chicken dies, I'd ask the neighbor to pay for another one of similar age and breed.
In some places it's against the law to allow dogs to run...
Yes. I called the vet and she said to pour peroxide on the wound to clean it, then smear it with an antibiotic salve such as Neosporin. No bandage. We put Neosporin on the wound several times. We brought the hen in the house and put her in a large wire dog crate lined with newspaper. We kept her...
Neighbors can be awful. We have a neighbor who cut down several of our trees so she could have a view of our pond! And another who became furious with me when I told her children they couldn't play ball on our property. We ended up fencing 14 acres. Very expensive, but worth it. We don't have a...
I have two of these for my small flock of 5 hens. Each day I take fresh water to the hens in one waterer and bring the other one inside for cleaning and refilling. If we will be away for a day or two, I put both waterers in the coop. The waterer rests on a concrete block and I level it with...
I can't figure out how to send a photo, but if you'll google Great Pyrenees you'll see what our Everest looks like. Big, white, and fluffy. He looks like a purebred, but we don't know for sure. He was a stray with no identification. Friends, if you adopt a Pyr please have him microchipped right...
Finally found the Great Pyrenees I was looking for! Everest is a rescue, approx. 8 years old but in good health, and he completely ignores the chickens, even if he is in the pen with them. Hawks, beware!! We'll take care of the old guy for the rest of his life. He's a great pet and is good...
This is very similar to what happened to my hen. My dog got hold of her last week. Now the dog has a new home, and Henrietta is resting in a wire crate on our enclosed, warm back porch. I called the vet and she told me what to do: clean the wound with peroxide, slather Neosporin on it, and keep...
My dog caught my poor hen today. She had flown over the fence despite her wings being clipped. She is still alive and is in a big wire dog crate in the house. I had decided to put her down tomorrow until I read all the advice in this thread, but now I think maybe she can make it. I called a vet...
