Clear Rubbermaid or Sterilite container. That's what I used. Easy to clean! You can modify the lid anyway you wish. Worked great! When not using it as a brooder you can store all your baby chick stuff in it until next time!

I really enjoyed watching the "Death from Above" maneuver. One chick would jump on top of the brooder light and lay in wait until another unsuspecting chick would walk by underneith and then BOOM! Sneak attack!!

Mounting is also a form of dominance. Your Roo just wanted to establish the pecking order from the get go. Either that or he couldn't resist the new gals charms!
If you stick to a schedule, eventually they will figure out the routine.
Last time with my newbies, it took two weeks of waking them up and putting them to bed. During the day I'd leave treats on the ramp or ladder to encourage exploration.
