I had the same problem, not an elevation prob, but the dirt just dont drain and holds all moisture. What I did was excavate a 2' wide x 6" deep trench around coop & run and lined with fabric and gravel. This will avoid any water from running into the coop & run. In the run area and under coop...
I had issues with all this rain in NY in my chicken run with water puddles and being all muddy. I put about 4 inches of sand in the run and under the coop and no more problems. My chickens love it. They love running around there and I always see them rolling around in it.
I have a little 2 week old chick, which I still don't know the exact breed. But it loves to lay on my stomach when I'm laying down on the couch and just fall asleep. He/She will stay there for the longest time and never move or peep. When I go to put he/she back in the coop, it starts to jump...
Which breed of chick is the one with the black strips on its back? I just got one as an exotic with my order from McMurray. I have found 3-4 breeds that look very similar.
I have an automatic door on mine. Slides vertically. My current setup is a 1/2" thick plywood door that is being lifted by a drapery motor that I purchased online. While my girls are still getting use to going in and out themselves I have it connected to a remote control so I can open and...
Here are some new pics of the girls on there roosts. Took them almost 2 weeks to learn to go up the ramp themselves and jump up to there roosts. So far 2 days in a room there inside by 7:30pm.
I will take some pics of the inside as requested and post them up. The actual coop is 7'-6" x 4' wide, & the outside is 10' x 7'-6" wide. One the outside I have the vinyl coated chain link with I believe its called hardware cloth on the lower area that is also going about a 1' into the dirt...
I have a few finishing touches to do. Such as run the electric underground to the coop for the lights & to power the automatic door, and to have electric for the water heater for the winter.
