    Injured 8 week old hen

I knew better but I did it anyway. My yard is flooded and I have no where for my older hens to go outside so I sold all but one Australorp, she's 1. I put her in with 3 8 week old hens. This is where I should have resisted the urge to be lazy. She really paid little attention to them unless...

    sick hens

Great info, thanks so much. The hens are only 7 months, one is 1 1/2 and she's quit laying. I think that they might be molting now but I'll give the wormer and other things a try. I started with some yogurt today as a probiotic. I'm not sure if she gets to eat but I'm making sure when she's...

    sick hens

All my hens were laying like crazy. Then a few were laying off a bit and now only 2 are laying regularly. I have 6 hens of different breedings. I checked 2 of them today that are not laying; it's been 2 months for my Cocoo Maran and about 3 weeks for my Buff Op. They did not have any mites...

    Success

Yes, I imagine that is very true. i think that in my situation I had too many hens using the same box. They are only just starting to lay and I found the first egg with no shell to speak of. Then another with beak marks in the shell but not broken. The next day the whole eggs was eaten and...

    Success

My boxes are up on a shelf they have to fly up to get inside of. I see them looking as they arrange themselves inside, so I would say yes, they see the wooden egg or balls. Hope that helps if you are having egg issues. I also try to collect the eggs asap.

    Success

I read everyones comments about chickens eating their eggs, how to stop it and tried several ideas suggested. I have come to find out that one method works. I put a wooden egg in one box and 2 golf balls in another. Since doing this I have not had one eggs even pecked at. What didn't work...

    Poor Chicken Little

Ya, I have organic food with the protein they require. I'm still going to work on the Buff girl putting her one on one with an older hen. Maybe the one who's quit laying. Thanks for your input.

    Poor Chicken Little

My Buff Orp hen is the youngest of my new girls by about 3 weeks. I had her with a duckling that I decided to get rid of because of all the water mess. Now Chicken Little is a loner. She roosts alone, stays outside after all the others are in and visa versa. I've tried putting her out with...

Is it okay for chickens to eat suet cakes?

Do you need to crack the seeds or do the chickens do that themselves?

What to do about feather loss and little red crawling bugs

Yes, I have a cat. So the Sevin is dusted on the birds like I did the diatom? I have pine shavings so all of it needs to go? Do I need to just dust the wood floors or get the walls too? What a hastel for one mite!

What to do about feather loss and little red crawling bugs

My Americana quit laying and then after several few weeks I noticed she has lost a lot of neck feathers. On further inspection, I found lots of areas of feathers missing. I thought of molting but then decided to give her a once over. Looking at her more closely, I saw only one little red bug(...

    Chicks chicks and Roos??

Tnx, I thought it was too early too but I'm new to raising chicks. The more aggressive one seems to be growing so much faster and getting a lot bigger too. I've read this sparing is just showing their pecking order so it's normal. I just put them into a larger box and they seem happier with...

    Chicks chicks and Roos??

So, my bigger and more aggressive Baard Rock might be a Roo but they were all pullets supposedly. They are 3 weeks old. This one is bumping chests, flapping wings, and just randomly picking on the black sex link and Lace wing. They then gang up and pick on just one, usually the black sex...

Is it normal for 5 week old chicks to fight?

So, my bigger and more aggressive Barred Rock might be a Roo? THey were all pullets and this one is bumping chests, flapping wings, and just randomly picking on the black sex link and Lace wing the same age. I separated the 1 week Leghorn and Silky from the 3 because of size their size...

    Hey there, newbie here

I'm a one year backyard caretaker but new to your group. I only have 3 and 3 more peepers to join my flock, staying warm under their heat lamp. I like variety so I have all different girls and NO roosters. My 3 girls that are laying are all 10- 11 months old now. I have a buff Orpington, an...
