Thank you and your wife for this spreadsheet. It is better than any app and yet tells me what I really want to know. I used it years ago but stopped when I saw how much each egg cost me. Now I need to know if they can cover their room and board and your spreadsheet will give me the answer...
Hey there undergroundchickens,
I have had successful hatchings in the carton and out. I prefer in the carton because it's easier to clean up and the chicks like to snuggle in the cups. I do take the shells out often.
Good luck and relax. Nature does a wonderful job.
Buff Orpingtons are easy to sex at a day to three days old. I have used feather sexing on mine and had a 95% accuracy rate for the last 2 years. Watch this video They show very clear pics of the feathers to look at.

I will eat them if they don't sell. Our feed store buys all pullets so there is a market for a roo. I can sex all my chicks so I get left with a lot of roos.
By June 4th? LOL congrats on a great hatch!
OK I was having a moment and wishing for summer I guess.
okiehen - I hope we can...
OK so the story goes like this
I bought 2 dozen eggs for hatching from okiehen in Oklahoma. She emailed that they were on their way on April 5, 2010.
April 13th (yes they were with the post office for 7 days) they arrived at my doorstep via the local carrier. They were well packed and...
I just picked this one year old Light Brahma up and I dont know what to make of his feet. The flock seemed to be in the middle of a molt. I got him because he wasn't playing nice with the other roo. I did the Vaseline treatment the night I brought him home thinking maybe mites but now Im...
Sterling Ameracaunas
Tori your babies are soooo big. I don't think I've ever had to prop up a chick so it's legs could get stong enough to hold up it's body. These guyds were so big they couldn't get off their backs and stand upright by themselves These are the only two hatched out of the 4...
Tori these are too cute I think I have 17 so far. They don't stay still long enough to count them!
Have a few left in the hatcher so we will see.
Love the little brown one.
Hey Tori,
27 out of the 30 quail eggs went into lockdown tonight (or this morning?) The Ameracauna eggs looked pretty good
Denali only had 6 out of her 36 D'Uccles hatch. 1 self blue, 1 buff columbian and 4 millies. We had just separated out the colors. We set 5 dozen more of her eggs tonight...

I pay 300 - 500 per ton of hay and it's just brome! Our bales are usually around 50 # and go for upwards of $16.00 per bale at the feed stores. Can I move my 12 horses and my chickens in with you?
My chicken/turkey/quail feed gets delivered to my door for just under $21.00 per 50 # bag.
Hey all, my heart goes out to you all. Spring is here and things have to get better!
akcountrygrrl hows it going. When are you coming to town to get those eggs?
Denali's eggs are due to hatch on Tuesday.
I just finished hatching out 12 of the 15 eggs sent from North Carolina. All are happy and healthy. (The 3 were clear and didn't go into lockdown)
We are busy beavers around here. I bought another coop (that makes 3) and it came with 24 chickens and 6 turkeys all are a year old. So far I have...
Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :
Now hopefully the quail will do the same thing...
I am driving out to the PO before I go to work tonight to see if the package has arrived. It takes less time to travel from NC
They traveled all the way from North Carolina to North Pole
They went into the incubator
They started hatching
All done! 12 Fuzzy yellow Buff Butts
Wish they would have all stayed in front of the camera
I now have an even dozen. I will post pics as soon as I get home from work.
Thanks Green Family Farm for taking the chance on sending eggs to Alaska.
