    Acting odd!

I've got a Leghorn that has never acted broody before. She's a 1yr old. The past few days she's be laying eggs very late on the day. Though she had always laid in the mornings. She's also starting to pull out her belly feathers, and getting very irritable when I approach her in the nest...

    best advice you have

Best advice I'd give. Do a large amount of research as to what bread of bird will suit your needs/desires best. There can be significant differences between various varieties that may come as unpleasant surprises: For example: Some birds can handle the heat from a southern summer, some can't...

Does anyone sell their chicken manure?

I have a decent size flock of 20 birds, but will be increasing that to over 50 in the coming months. Over the past year, I've been taking all the chicken manure and the wood shavings and throwing into a large compost bend. With that number of birds, it is far too much to use for my own garden...

    Suspicious Predator

We have an abundance of Redtail hawks in my area, so that is certainly a possibility. I just wouldn't think it would hide the kill in the high vegetation. I thought a hawk would stay out in the open.

    Suspicious Predator

Yes, I did mean to post a picture so that people could examine the evidence. The head and breast area were NOT eaten. The rectal and end trails region is what has been consumed. Our birds only get to free range for a few hours in the evening. So this happened between 5:00pm & 8:00pm. The...

    Suspicious Predator

We just lost our 1st chicken to a predator. :-( My son found a pile a feathers in the cattails surrounding our pond. Upon further investigation, I found a couple patches of feathers where a skirmish took place in among the cattails, then finally finding carcass. The chicken has been eaten on...

    Help in identifying a dropping

I've got 21 birds, so it will be very difficult to isolate her. Is this issue contagious? Are the other birds in any kind of danger?

    Help in identifying a dropping

I decided to lance it open with a razor blade. It was pus filled with a yolk inside of that. Almost as though the egg started to develop, got infected, then came out as a tumor or something. Very strange.

I've treated her with Corid, given electrolytes and given her all the food she wants. I've got Valbazen on order. So it should be here in a couple days.
