We get $1.00/doz here in Iowa.. folks can get a dozen eggs at the Quick Star convience store for .99 cents.. so I figure since mine are farm fresh, folks will pay a penny more ...
Yes you can connect two routers together.. That is what I had to do. Since my chicken house is over 500ft from the house, I put a wireless router in the machine shed which is approx half way between the house and the chicken house. Then, from the machine shed router, I bounce the wireless...
my wireless router is inside a metal machine shed and is able to communicate with the webcam which is approx 200ft away. The signal strength is around 15 - 20%. I like that it has sound so I can listen to them as well..
I leave the webcam up on my computer all night long, and at 530am we are...
Try this.. See if the picts show up.. Here is when I had the camera in side facing the roosts and nests.. Picture is during the daytime. I dont have any night snapshots.
Here is a snap shot I took at 630pm tonight. I moved the camera outside for a change of scenery last week. Only the roo...
not sure how ya'll upload picts into the thread.. I aint figured that out yet.. I'd upload some snapshots so you can see them as soon as I figure it out..
It has a "night mode" and brightness adjustment built into the camera. I have a 15 watt bulb in the coop (16x16 ft) that is on at night just to have some dim light inside. I can see the girls on the roost faily well..
The picture is a little grainy at night, but during the day is very clear...
I use a Dlink DCS-950G wireless camera (with mic) which goes to my wireless router (over 200 ft). Then I pull it up on my pc using windows internet explorer application.
The camera has a built in web server so you can literally watch it from anywhere in the world.. or (work, vacation.. etc)
Surprise to us.. we got our first egg at 16 weeks + 1 day and are getting more daily from our 26 girls. They are placing them perfectly in the nester boxes each time. They roam outside the coop during the day too.. and locked up at night.
A few days earlier, we just got some broiler peeps in...
You might try putting a small light (15 watt) in the coop.. My chics automatically migrate inside to the lighted coop when it gets dark outside.. Once everyone is inside on the roosts (dusk) I close the door for the night.. (dim light stays on all night)
It got down to -26 below here in Iowa last winter, but normally can range from -15 to 30 above. This is my first winter with the chics and am going to put a small corn burner in coop. We heat the machine shed with corn all winter and it works great.. specially since the corn is free..
So...
I had the same problem with one of my 5 week old chics getting pecked. They had her tail feathers pecked out and bloody before I caught it. I isolated her for 3 days, and also sprayed "blue kote" on her wound. You can buy it at farm fleet stores.
Once I let her back with the others, they...
Yep.. I leave a small (15 watt) light on at night.. It's very dim but is just enough to draw them inside when it gets dark outside and allows them just enough light to see thier surroundings..
Dittos on the butt head...
also, thanks for the post.. I'm about to start mixing feed to migrate over to full layer feed in the next few weeks and had the same question regarding feeding the rooster.. You answered my question.. thanks
CGMCCARY.. I'm glad to see you use poultry protector and that it is working for you.. I recently started raising some (26) layers (12 weeks old now) and wanted something (non toxic) to use as a preventative measure.. I found PP at a farm/fleet store and thought I'd give it a try. So, I'm glad...
