Can you post photos of the wounds?... there are many on here hens that have recovered from huge, gaping wounds, muscles exposed, etc. With proper care things are recoverable that may look quite dire. I had one like that, following my gut not to put her down and now she is back with the flock, an...
Just wanted to chime in... I rarely post here, but do use it as a resource. Wanted to reassure you that it is doable even with a wound of that size.
I have a hen that had a wound of that size under her wing and around most of her leg... full skin was gone & all muscle was showing + some of the...
I have 5 pearl guinea keets, fully feathered.
I have a 6th with an injured leg that may or may not heal straight (it was wrenched and caught in a wire area, but the guinea is fully operational hopping around with its buddies on one leg) you are welcome to for free or it may stay with mine and...
Ruth... I'm a vegetarian. BF is not and we certainly have a boat load of sled dogs that would love a rooster. I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it, hence the craigslist ad. While I wait around spineless, I feed them a TON a day in feed since I can't free range them with the dogs...
Rare Feathers Farm... that is an amazingly beautiful rooster! wow.
Cashdl & Ruth. I think that's what I'm going to do, keep the black ones and get rid of everyone else except a Barred Rock Rooster. Is it ever doable to keep more than one rooster in the same pen? I tried with two last winter and...
Darn... I was hoping I was wrong. Once they go to a "free for meat" home or BF gets up the nerve to process them all my coop sure is going to be empty! To think I've been feeding these voracious buggers for four months now.
Thanks cashdl... I'm struggling with the longer tail feather on the black birds. They don't have deep red combs and have not crowed, but their mothers didn't have such long tail feather. These guys are barnyard mutts from the hatchery brown egg layers mix that I hatched out.
Am I correct in thinking that all the brown ones that grew a darker multi-colored tail are roosters?
Do you think the black one with the longer tail feather could be a female? (pic 6)
Please don't laugh at my ignorance, but these are the ones that have not crowed but I think are roosters. I believe I've got at least 16 or 20 that are roosters. These are pics of a few, hatched May 15. Let me know if you spot a hen in any of these pics! Before I give them all away for free on...
Thanks guys ... I know it sounds crazy about chucking the bator. But really, I couldn't get the temp stable for the life of me! It's an LG... I'm guessing that the wafer is going bad?
It's so exciting that they did so well. Now i have a much better problem... how to pick which I keep? Won't BF...
So three weeks ago a dog took out every single one of my hens (12) and the mean ol' rooster that was destined for the crockpot.
I was devastated, but it was my fault due to a weak pen. We began to build Fort Knox for a new coop and I in a sort of desperation, I took every single egg out of the...
I read the questions and spit up my coffee. I run a sled dog kennel, with sibes, alaskans, and mals. Honestly, a sibe would be the worst livestock guardian dog you could possibly choose. Between my neighbors and I (they also have sibes), the death and destruction of small furry and feathered...
Tried that this week when my hatch started early. A chick gots its leg stuck and screamed until we freed it, it still walks a bit funny. At that point we removed the turner entirely mid-hatch with pipping eggs in progress. If I had it to do over again, I'd remove the turner immediately to...
Well, I may have shrink wrapped a few for the sake of the others. I ascertained that the ones hatching so far were not the shipped auction ones from Wynette they were mine. I had 12 viable from Wynette and 24 of my own as of Friday.
Two of mine hatched today and three were pipping when we...
This is very odd. I had two thermometers in there and the temp has been 99.5 or below. This weekend in some rooms the temp was up to 110 due to the boiler. We caught the incubator very quick but it may have gone higher than 102. When I opened my fishtank, steam literally rose from the water ...
Ok, they shipped on 3/15 and arrived on 3/17, I set them the morning of 3/18 so I expected hatching to begin on 4/7.
I hope they are hardier than my goldfish
ok ... I am leaning toward leaving them in the turner ( I unplugged it) at least for now, I'm just so worried about broken legs with all the cracks and crevices. We were shocked to see the little guy already out of the shell this morning... this is day 18/19 I was expecting hatching Wed - Thu.
