    2 roos?

I tried my hand at letting our hens hatch a few eggs on their own. Rooster is an Americana and hens were most likely black australops, or Rhode Island reds, or new Hampshire reds. The new Hampshire hen did the most of the incubating along with 2 black australops double teaming the nest box next...

Not Sure if You've Got a Pullet or a Cockerel? Click here! thread 3

i dont know. i would guess all of their sales are final and they wont be of any help to me at all. we are going to keep one of the easter egger cockerels. we think he is really pretty. and so far he seems to be the most gentle with the other hens. we ll see!

Not Sure if You've Got a Pullet or a Cockerel? Click here! thread 3

thank you. i was afraid of that myself. 8 out of 16 new chicks this year out of the "pullet container" have turned out to be cockerels. not very happy with rural king to say the least..... oh yeah, almost 8 weeks old

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

We picked up 12 more "layers" to add to our flock early this spring 4 black australops, 4 new hampshire reds, 2 silver laced wyandots, and 2 auracanas. All were supposed to be pullets. Clearly not true because we have 2 black australop roos, a rooster i m not sure of the breed, and one that i...

    SLEEPING IN THEIR RUN

i d guess you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the height of your roost poles inside vs the ones outside. from what i have learned birds prefer to roost at the highest point possible. maybe if you could get the inside roost bars higher, or outside roost bars lower, they will roost inside

    Lethargic/yellow diarrhea- Plymoth Barred Rock

I have searched a lot and still havent 100% found my answer. I have a plymoth barred rock hen that started out acting a little lethargic. the next day i noticed some poop on her tail feathers near her vent. it was a yellow/green liquidy poop. she has lost a lot of weight. i put her in a cage...

    SLEEPING IN THEIR RUN

good point talkalittle. i would consider my run pretty secure. it is made of dog fence. like the chain link fence. i just wish they wanted to stay inside the coop.

    SLEEPING IN THEIR RUN

dang. guess i m just worrying too much then. maybe i should build them another roost outside. i thought about putting a real low watt soft white light on a timer inside the coop to come on at dusk and stay on for a few hours to help bring them back inside at night.

    SLEEPING IN THEIR RUN
