    Show Me Your Feeders!!

I know this is an old post, but if you are still around, could you tell me how many you have out for 8 birds? We are just getting 8 set up and I am wondering how many I will need as I assume only 1 can eat at a time. Thank you!

    Alternative to burying wire

It looks like it is holding up really well. Thanks for the update.

    Alternative to burying wire

I The boards on the side are 2' tall, so I plan to fill it up as high as I can with dirt from the yard topped with some sandy soil left from a garden bed I built and used the soil to amend our very clay rich dirt.I am still unsure whether I should top that with wood chips or shavings or just...

    Alternative to burying wire

I checked out your link and indeed what I used is the 17 ga stuff pictured at the top. It is essentially wrapped from the ceiling on one side, down under the floor and back up the other side. My only option at this point to change it would be to cut the 2 center pieces ( there are 4 pieces side...

    Coop too Small?

All of your assumptions were correct and that is so helpful. I really appreciate your comments. Back to work I go!

    Alternative to burying wire

I have just done this with stucco wire and was a little worried about the chicks digging down to it. I am glad to hear it has worked for you. Thank you.

    Coop too Small?

This is the front view. There is a door that opens up on what was the back of the coop in the other pic.

    Coop too Small?

Great. Adding an extra 2 ft of floor space for bigger roosting space will be relatively easy. The whole thing is under a wall of oak trees so it is a pretty cool corner of the yard. I'm thinking that will make a huge difference in the summer.

    Coop too Small?

If I extend the floor and sides of the coop out another 2 feet, you think they will be ok in the winter? That would give them 8x4 semi enclosed and a full 8x12 of floor space underneath, plus some yard time. We live in an area of town with loose chickens everywhere, parks, streets, etc. I...

    Coop too Small?

I am definitely enclosing that open side so it will be an enclosed coop. It is still very much a work in progress. The 2 8' ft sides are fully covered with 2x4 boards. We took out an old deck and have lots of them. I plan to put 2' hardware cloth at the bottom of the 12' walls. It is actually...

    Coop too Small?

FridayYet - I do plan on putting a roof on the run, so it will be dry. I am in Sacramento, CA where we get some rain (some years), but only maybe a few weeks out of the year where it drops below freezing at night.

    Coop too Small?

Yes, the nesting boxes are inside too. It is about 3ft tall. I will post pictures shortly. I don't have the final wall up yet, but struggle with the best way to expand it structurally. I'm

    Coop too Small?

I had one other question. We lined the bottom of the run with stucco wire and I plan to fill with dirt for the ground. Will 1ft of dirt be enough for them to scratch in or should I cut out the wire in the center leaving a skirt, but allowing them a patch in the middle where they could dig as low...

    Coop too Small?

Hi everyone! I have been reading like crazy to try to get everything right for my first coop/run. I have 8 five week old chicks (2 Cochins, 2 Brahmas, 2 Buckeyes and 2 Bantams) living in my garage that need to go outside very soon. I have built an enclosed run 12'x8' with an elevated coop...
