    My first hatch

These two girls havn't laid in over a week now. They are over 4 years old and have really slowed down production. So that was one reason I wanted to get some OE's.

Olive Eggers baby chicks, lots of pics

We are supposed to get some rain here tomorrow, so I don't think I will put them outside. Hopefully by Friday it will be warm enough to let the girls outside and take some more pics.

Olive Eggers baby chicks, lots of pics

That is very exciting. I started keeping chickens back in 2009 and hope to always have a flock in my backyard. Just wish I could have roosters. I have never had RIR breed, but I have one remaining(out of 2) New Hamphsire Reds that were sold to me as RIR. They are beautiful, very tame(often...

    My first hatch

Thanks a lot. These are my first OE's. I have two EE's and four of these baby OE's look just like the two EE's. This is Bella my old EE and I think two of my baby OE's will look a lot like her. (except they don't have the green legs) And this is Dora, my second adult EE. I think two of...

    The Incubator Thread

I went with the Genesis Hovabator for my first hatching attempt. Found local eggs, picked up 18. 14 out of the 18 hatched. Turned by hand, 3-5 times a day. Very happy with the results...will be trying shipped eggs for the second batch when they arrive this week.

How should I incorporate chicks into the big coop?

I have added baby chicks once to an established flock. I originally make a small temporary pen just outside of the main run. I put the new chicks in that pen during the days, provided its warm enough around weeks 3-6. Then I just throw them into the main run once I think they are feathered out...

Olive Eggers baby chicks, lots of pics

These are pics of my first hatch. I set 18 eggs on February 1st. Found fertile eggs from a local source. The rooster is a BCM. I was told that he is Cottage Hill line...I am not allowed roosters and this was the first rooster I have ever seen in person. Wish I had taken my camera with him. I was...

    My first hatch

Thanks. I was very happy to have 14 out of the 18 hatch. The Genesis is so easy to use. It held temperature very well in my living room. And I know the temperature in the room varied by at least 10 degrees each day. I had to cull two of the chicks. They had deformed legs and could not stand...

    My first hatch

I set my first batch of eggs on February 1st. I found a local source in the San Fernando Valley for Oliver Egger eggs. His roo was absolutely gorgeous, a BCM(he said it was Cottage Hill line). So I asked for 12 eggs and he gave me 18. I used the Genesis Hovabator, manually turning the eggs 3...
