Yeah I'm not sure it's possible for me to put a red bulb in the run with the rest of the chicks to prevent pecking since it's been raining like crazy where I'm at. But I've been checking on the broody and her babies and they seem to be fine. I haven't seen any bullying and the other chicks seem...
Yeah as soon as she heals I'm going to try again. She's already walking and eating on her own, but she still seems to be in pain just by looking at the way she stands. But she's pretty happy at the moment teaching her newly hatched sibling how to eat and drink.
Update: she's walking around and showing her new sibling how to eat. I haven't really seen her drinking yet, but I'm assuming she is since she hasn't really taken huge gulps of water every time I show her it's there. But its insane how quickly she recovered and just in time since I have to go...
Yeah, I'll try that as soon as she's walking around again. I have 5 eggs in the incubator that the broody abandoned. I'm guessing the hens snuck a few eggs in her nest while she was sitting. And one of them just hatched today, so I'm thinking about putting the newly hatched chick in the brooder...
Hello everyone! I have a chick that was with her broody and siblings until she was attacked. I have a feeling a chick pecked her too hard and caused some bleeding and I guess the rest joined in, because mom was pretty content with everyone and then this happened 4 days later. Anyways, she's in...
Hello everyone! At the moment, I have a broody with 8 chicks that are 4-5 days old in the chicken run (since my flock are free range). I also took her abondoned 6 eggs and started incubating them since I figured they would hatch in a day or so and I could just introduce them at night after they...
He's so handsome!! I gave one of my boys away to a good friend and the other is having a blast with the girls. But I'm starting to have issues with him now that he's not fighting his friend anymore. He doesn't necessarily attack me, but he loves challenging any man that comes into my yard lol.
Hi guys!! My BBBs free range and are currently eating 24% in the morning and before bedtime. They all seemed fine this morning, but when I was calling them over to come to bed, I noticed one was missing. I found him later laying under a tree. He was panting and refused to get up. And he seemed...
Thank you! She's a lovely mommy. They're all RIR babies from my only rooster (who's also very sweet). It makes me wonder if they are really RIR lol.
That definitely makes a lot of sense. It's been getting pretty hot out here. It's just so weird to see some fluff on them still, but they're...
Hi guys!
I was looking for some opinions on my broody. She's obviously an RIR and I wasn't expecting her to go broody. But anyways she's been doing really well, doesn't switch nests while incubating, all seven eggs hatched and she hasn't lost one chick, but the only thing that bothers me is how...
Hi guys!
Three weeks ago, I bought four EE chicks and 15 poults. Now that the weather is nice for the babies, I was thinking about getting them outside this week. The only thing thats stopping me is the mosquitoes... My existing flock has only been vaccinated for fowl pox, but my local feedstore...
All of my girls love it! And they're constantly laying eggs ever since I started feeding them Layena omega-3. I always put out a dish of crushed oyster shells, but now it seems like no one ever touches it ever since they started the oyster strong system!
Got a reply back. They're not sure what they gave me... It could either be a heritage bronze or BBB. Is there anyway I could know the difference besides waiting for them to get huge?
I got an order of 15 turkeys from Cackle two weeks ago. Eight of them were supposed to be Bourbon Reds and the rest were Narragansett. But from what I've seen on the internet, it looks like I don't have any Bourbon Reds :(. Could you guys identify what they are for me while I'm waiting around...
Totally a roo! I have other RIR pullets and one cockerel the same exact age. The girls don't even have a red comb at this age. My cockerel looks completely different from my pullets and he looks exactly like yours.
