    Twisting neck and stumbling

One yr old Australian starting stumbling and twisting head, today. Bathed in OTC oatmeal bath and added ACV. No signs of lice or mites. Crop was empty. Feeding meal worms and feed, but she's having a hard time picking up the food. Bad aim! Hasn't drank anything yet. Offering water with...

Take a look and see what you think this could be

Update: since sick chicken has been on meds for a week, and since she wasn't moving around much in the dog pen, I decided to let her out with the flock and see if it would perk her up. I also wanted to see how she would move, out in the yard. The girls were very interested in her, and the...

Thanks for the info. I wonder why the vet said she had a high temp? Anyway, I cooked her some eggs today and she wouldn't have them. But I brought her in to sit with me for awhile, and was able to get her to eat Greek yogurt off my finger. She really seemed to like it. I also used a dropper...

After doing some reading in the learning center, it seems like the symptoms most closely fit those of a staph infection. On the chart that shows disease symptoms, fever is only a symptom for Staph and one other condition, and she doesn't have symptoms of the other condition. Her temp was over...

YES! Sorry, I meant 2 teaspoons per gallon. When we went to give her the second dose of amox, she had left a rather large, nasty poop. It was a runny mess of dark brown, white and red. That was the first nasty poop I've seen, anywhere in the yard. I hope we got her on meds in time. No sign...

I decided to take her to the vet, since this is my first sick chicken. No worms, not egg bound. She did have 107 fever! Doc injected her with antibiotic and b12, and gave us amoxicillin to administer. We are treating the flock drinking water with corid 9.6 liquid....is the dosage 2 Tbl per...

Thanks for your reply. These 6 girls are about 20 weeks old and have been together since 5 days old. They are on laying ration crumbles. They free-range in our backyard during the day, eating bugs and lots of winter rye grass. I give them apples cores, lettuce cores, strawberry tops and other...

Hi everyone! As I patiently wait for our first egg to show up, I noticed my sweet buff Orpington hanging back from the crowd, when I opened the pen yesterday. I was too busy to really pay attention then, but checked on her again today. She is definitely having some sort of issue. I thought...

2 out of six may be cockerels?

We are at 17 weeks, and there were NO cockerels. I'm so surprised. And the tiny little Barred Rock that I thought would never make it is the same size as her much larger sibling, now! I guess you just never know. These pics are a few weeks back. They are all MUCH larger, now.

    Poop management

I'm worried that the poop pile won't age because I keep adding to it. And, is it okay to let the chickens scratch in it?

    Poop management

Noob alert! have 6 pullets, that we have raised from 5 days old, in a coop, with a 20x40 outside run. Sand is the base for the coop (with a little DTE) with dirt, hay and leaves outside the coop. I have been taking the poop out of the enclosed run, scooping it up with the hay and leaves, and...

2 out of six may be cockerels?

2 Barred Rocks, 2 Australorps, 1 Buff Orpington and 1 Light Sussex. All 4 weeks old, supposedly. 2 are giant and one is tiny. Thinking the big ones may be cockerels? What do you think?[/IMG]

    Coccidiosis? Pic

Thanks! I do think I over analyzed it. The girls are all 4.5 weeks old now, and run around in their coop/run like its Disneyland! No signs of fuzzy wings and sitting still. I'm learning so much from this site! I hope it makes me a better chicken keeper.

    Coccidiosis? Pic

Hi! I'm new to the forum and chicken keeping. I have 3 4-week old chicks. I've been putting them in the run during the warm days, here in Texas. I noticed my Sussex lay a large, slightly runny poop that looks like lumpy mud, with just a tiny bit of red. I spread it out with a toothpick to...
