School Textbook wrong on Chicken Genetics?

Attention all geneticists, help needed! :) In my Biology textbook for school is this paragraph: (sorry for blurriness) The SOP, under the definition of barring, says that barring is determined by a sex linked factor for Plymouth Barred Rocks, Dominiques, "Cuckoo group" , but for...

    Campine Chicken thread?

@Wisher1000 there is an interesting article, in PDF format, at Feathersite called "The Charm of the Campine." It states two interesting things I have not heard before. 1.) That Campine is to be pronounced Kam-peen. and 2.) that a Campine feather that is not tipped with white or gold, and rather...

With two hens producing eggs at the same time, how big of an incubator would you recommend?

    Campine Chicken thread?

Lets say I wanted to know exactly which hen produced which chicks; would a trio be a good idea? Is it possible for one rooster be rotated between two hens kept in separate pens, while eggs are collected and hatched from both at the same time? Also, when do you start hatching and how long do you...

    Campine Chicken thread?

Sorry to interrupt the genetics discussion, but has anyone heard of people breeding golden Campines by the last name of Hance or Birdsell in Harmony, NC. They were at the state fair, showing goldens. I tried to look them up here and at Poulty Show Central's website, but nothing came up. I'll...

    Chicken door inside people door?

Ah ok I wasn't planning on building a run for my new coop, so I guess I'll use the small-door-inside-a-big-door design then. Thanks!

    Chicken door inside people door?

I was wondering if anyone has tried this. Just have a chicken door inside the bottom of the "people" door. It just seems easier, especially when trying to corner chickens instead of coming inside the people door, only to have them run outside the chicken door on the other side of the coop, and...

    Neighborhood cat eating chickens

And then, they will kill it sooner or later. I would try to talk to the owner first. How would you feel if someone hauled off your chicken just because it ate something out of their garden?

    Neighborhood cat eating chickens

Asking for the cost of the killed chicken is reasonable, but trapping someone else's PET cat and delivering it to animal control as a FERAL where they will kill it sooner than later, is wrong. Please do not do this.

    Neighborhood cat eating chickens

Talk to them. If they won't listen, just build your chickens a predator proof run and lock them in it. How old are your chickens? My cats are afraid of my full grown birds.

I Have a Question for You All?? Please Help

With 4 sq. ft. each, it will house 8 chickens, but if you have plenty of roost space, at least 3 nest boxes, and a covered run they can access every day, I think you will be fine.

    Campine Chicken thread?

I live in NC. Wouldn't golds from her be split gold/silver though? Since she breeds silvers only? Really looking for show quality birds, so hatcheries are out of the question.
