Number of eggs a broody lays before she stops?

I've been reading the following links, so hopefully I've got it (mostly) right: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/guide-to-letting-broody-hens-hatch-and-raise-chicks https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/506381/broody-hen-care...

Number of eggs a broody lays before she stops?

I'm not sure, so I've attached a picture of her before she acted weird, and one from today. Gave her some eggs to sit on, hopefully she's broody and will stay broody! The above is a picture of her when she was 'normal'. This is her in her weird mood, and sitting on four eggs :)

Number of eggs a broody lays before she stops?

Wow, I never knew that. My hen had been acting funny recently, not banging her head on her cage to be let out, and just sitting in a corner like a broody would. This morning, when I approached her cage and called her name, she made some relatively high-pitched noises. Her feathers were also...

Number of eggs a broody lays before she stops?

Hello, I've read that a hen is not truly broody unless she stops laying. Is there an estimate of how many eggs a hen (who wants to raise chicks) will lay before she stops? Also, would it be different for different breeds? Thanks in advance!

Please help! Labored breathing, puffed up after predator attack

Louie left us yesterday, and it was only after her death that we discovered there was an air sac inside her as she refused to let us examine her. I feel horrible and responsible for her death. Perhaps I should have insisted on examining her. Thank you so much, you've given us lots of support.

Please help! Labored breathing, puffed up after predator attack

Thank you so much. Eggcessive, do you think I should give her some food mixed in water? She seems worse today, sleeping very often. Also, she sleeps standing. I worry that this isn't good for her as she already seems so weak. She is very puffed up and has almost doubled in size. Her crop is...

Please help! Labored breathing, puffed up after predator attack

Today a cat managed to get one of our chicks, and she had a wound on her back, where her tail starts growing. We havent given her anything other than electrolyte water and she's sleeping with a heat lamp now. However her breathing is fast and laboured, and she seems to have puffed up. Her legs...

Using oats to lower feed protein content

Thank you very much. I'll replace the oats with fine cracked corn :)

Using oats to lower feed protein content

I have a few 2-3 week old bantams, and because their feed has a protein content of about 24%, I mixed some oats in to bring the protein content to about 19%. I'm not planning for them to be meat chickens, so do you guys think it's still too much protein? Also, can I mix some cracked corn into...

    Sneezing baby chicks

They have sand as bedding, and are eating starter feed. When sleeping, the chick tilts her head up, which falls slightly, and her mouth opens and closes slightly. This repeats several times.

    Sneezing baby chicks

I have a 1 to 2 week old chick that has been sneezing for 2 days now. Sometimes she sneezes twice in a row, sometimes once, and it happens quite often. She shakes her head before sneezing, and sleeps more than others, although it's been like this since we got her. There was another chick that...

    Legbar or not?

I understand. I thought she was a legbar, and the fact that her egg was not blue puzzled me. I guess I'm just not very knowledgeable about these things. At least I've learned something new today, thank you everyone!

    Legbar or not?

I'm sorry. I have no knowledge about chicken breeds, and this is my first time raising chickens. My comments weren't very wise. Thank you very much.

    Legbar or not?

Sorry! I forgot to mention that the egg it hatched from was a light peachy colour, not at all like the light blue eggs Legbars lay.

    Legbar or not?

The chicky is a little over 2 weeks old. Recently I stumbled upon a picture of cream legbar chicks and thought my chick looked really similar. However, from what I know, legbars have yellow legs, wheras this chick has greyish ones. Also, can anyone confirm if its a pullet? I think it is, but...

Leaving only chick for 10 days

Thank you everyone. The chances of getting another chick is very low where I live. We incubated 6 eggs but only 3 made it to lockdown as the rest were unfertilised. Out of these 3, this chick is the only one that hatched. Even pet shops here do not sell chicks, and the only way to get one would...
