    Hard growth on chicken face

Well i ended up culling her. I figured if no one knows what it is then no one would know how to possibly treat it so no point in keeping her alive and letting the growth grow larger.

    Hard growth on chicken face

Here's some close up pictures of the bump, i removed what i thought was dried food or dirt but it turned out to be a scab, probably from when i cut in to the growth a few weeks ago hence the bleeding

    Hard growth on chicken face

I can't imagine how mareks would have infected my chickens as i haven't added any new birds in a long time and they are isolated from other birds/animals. He had the issues for a long time and whilst mareks does have a long incubation time it still would have showed in my other birds that were...

    Hard growth on chicken face

Yes he was culled but not by me so i never got a chance to see what was inside however I did make a few incisions on the hens growth and I saw no sign of infection just very hard growth it felt like I was scraping bone with the knife and Nothing came out other than blood. No other symptoms but...

    Hard growth on chicken face

It has to have a colour though right? When i cut open the growth on the hen the only thing i saw was clean blood and i made quite a few incisions too.

    Hard growth on chicken face

No one on this forum has any idea whatsoever what it could be?

    Hard growth on chicken face

Just had a look and the dark looking matter you saw turned out just to be food, the inside of his mouth looks very clean so I can probably rule out canker. Are cancerous tumours and abscesses meant to be very hard?

    Hard growth on chicken face

Nothing that i can see, if it was infected it should be a little soft at least right? This has been rock solid ever since started out as a small lump. The hen that developed a lump hasn't actually been with him for a long time, they've been completely separate for a while now. The chickens that...

    Hard growth on chicken face

I have a young cockerel that has had a growing lump on his face for a while now, it started off small but has grown quite large now as can be seen in the picture. It is very hard and almost feels like it's a part of the chicken if that makes sense. I am planning on culling him tomorrow anyway...

Storing hatching eggs in wine cooler

Anyone managed to store hatching eggs succesfully in a wine cooler? Don't really want to invest in one if it won't work out for whatever reason.

Storing hatching eggs in wine cooler

Do you think it was the wine cooler at fault or something else? I ask because on paper a wine cooler sounds perfect for storing hatching eggs. Did you maybe set the temperature too low?

Storing hatching eggs in wine cooler

There are arguments to be made on both sides. I agree with everything you said but there are definitely some advantages an incubator has over a broody.

Storing hatching eggs in wine cooler

I'm no expert on wine coolers and i didn't even know they existed until yesterday but what i do know is they differ from a regular fridge in that temps don't go low, the ones I've seen have a temperature range of 5c to 20c. I want to store at about 10c. They are also supposed to keep a higher...

2/3 chickens killed, what to do next?

The most important thing to do before adding any new chickens is to fox proof the coop so the fox doesn't get to the remaining chicken or any new ones you add. Sorry for your loss

Storing hatching eggs in wine cooler

You can't beat a broody hen when it comes to hatching rates. I've personally noticed they can hatch older eggs better than an incubator. I won't be using one this year as my previous broody was so protective over her 3 month chicks that it ended up getting her killed so will just be using an...

Storing hatching eggs in wine cooler

Has anyone done this? I was looking at buying a small fridge and modifying it to allow for a higher temperature to store hatching eggs that i won't be setting in an incubator for a while during the warmer months but then i came across wine coolers/fridges which sound perfect for this use due to...

    Respiratory disease or something else?

Her crop didn't feel unusual, fairly soft but nothing out of the ordinary. She does gasp but she has done so for a long time now and she's not the only one, i couldn't find anything else wrong with them so just stopped worrying about it. No nasal discharge, water eyes though. A few sneezes today...

    Respiratory disease or something else?

For the past 10 days or so one of my hens has started making a gurgling/rattling sound. I think this started when i put her in a broody cage (cage off raised from floor), she was wearing pinless peepers at the time. Now i automatically i assumed she had developed a respiratory infection and...

Dirt floor vs wood shavings for coop

Can i ask why you decided to use deep litter in the run, is it just for composting purposes? I only ask as like you my run is covered but the sides are open so some rain does get in but the dirt on the floor never has any smell so i never considered adding anything on top.
