    Broody Hen Day 19

It's funny, I purposely put all the fertile eggs in the least favorite nesting box, but due to her brooding, it has now because a favorite nesting box. However, good news.....mamma has successfully hatched 4 babies so far. There are only two fertile eggs left unhatched. Today is day 20. So glad...

    Broody Hen Day 19

Thats good to know. Is her height from the ground a concern once chicks hatch? Also, the other eggs are a little dirty, maybe yolk from the "missing eggs"... could one of the chickens or this hen have eaten them? Is that normal? This baby chick that I found was mostly intact.

    Broody Hen Day 19

One of my hens went broody. We don't have a rooster so I bought some fertilized eggs for her to sit on and try to hatch. 3 eggs have gone missing. Yesterday at Day 18 I found a dead chick and half the shell in the waterer. What happened? Also, should/can I move her? She is up fairly high in...

What is wrong with my Silkie?

I have 11 pullets. 8 are laying, including my black Silkie. Everyone seems perfectly healthy except my Silkie. What is going on with her head feathers. (sorry if my terminology isn't great, I'm new to chickens) she use to have fluffy feathers that covered her eyes, now this (see picture). Before...

Disappointed, but an Egg is an Egg

That would be great! Maybe both of the cream eggs I got one day are From my silkie. Maybe one was covered with hay and was a day old? The black copper and blue copper Marans hatched mid April. The splash Maran is younger but from the same guy. She hatched very end of May.

Disappointed, but an Egg is an Egg

Good to know. Thank you. I just can't believe their eggs are cream/off white. Not even light brown. The guy showed me his eggs (I asked to see them) and they were beautiful. Not the absolute darkest shade Ive seen online, but much darker than my flocks light brown eggs. I do know his birds are...

Disappointed, but an Egg is an Egg

I added a Black Copper Maran, Blue Copper Maran, and Splash Maran to my flock a couple months ago. I was excited to see some pretty dark brown eggs in my basket this month. Two of the 3 have started laying and the eggs are cream colored (same as my Silkie's egg) lighter than my Barred Rocks...

    Sick Silkie

I am new to chickens. We got our first babies in January. I am concerned about our Black Silkie. She is 6 months old. Starting laying a few weeks ago. She laid about 8 eggs, nearly everyday, and then suddenly stopped. She laid her eggs on the floor of the coop under the roosting bars, despite...

    Broody at 6 months?

So I am starting to wonder if it is mites or lice?? I took my Silkie down from the roost and she ate and drank. Then she proceeded alternate cleaning her feathers under her wings, rubbing her beak side to side on the ground and flapping her wings a few times. She also has slightly dirty feathers...
