Update! Salt is recovering quite well I’m happy to report. He’s up and walking a little. He’s wobbly on the leg that was stuck in the fence but I think it’s healing.
His left eye is most likely not going to be restored. That side of his face appears to have taken the worst of everything. I can...
He’s drinking a lot of water no problem there. I’m just worried that he’s not eating. Could it be he can’t see it so he won’t eat it? Has anyone ever had a blind turkey?
Taking him to the vet is an option, but I live in rural Alaska so it’s not too terribly easy to get someone here or him...
My favorite tom turkey, Salt, was found night before last hanging upside down with his leg caught in the fence. And if that wasn’t bad enough, he was covered in blood on his head and neck. I believe what happened was that he fought with my other tom and in the fight lost his footing. His leg was...
Good luck on your Emu hatch! I have four emu eggs set for the Easter Hatch-a-long. Just saw one wiggle for the first time tonight! So incredibly cool:celebrate
Hello,
Yes! Emu eggs are in the incubator... I placed four eggs but I'm thinking that maybe two of them are not fertile. Two are losing weight as they should but two are sadly not. I don't believe it is an issue with temp or humidity as they are all in the same incubator and two are doing just...
I'm hatching the Emu eggs because my 23 year old son and my 14 year old daughter decided they just had to try Emus! My son calls them "his" little babies...then why am I doing the turning hmmmmm....
Anyway, we are all very excited for the Emus no matter who lays claim to them. Baby Emus are...
The Emu eggs fit in my Hovabator very nicely. Just had to take out the wire base and of course no egg turner (except me of course ) I put two small glass canning jars in with the eggs to hold water for humidity, and that does it. Four Emu eggs fit very nicely!
I am fairly certain that Legacy is a pullet. She just has that "look" :) Time will tell, but I'm grateful to have her no matter what.
I ordered baby chicks from my favorite hatchery and they will ship up to me in Alaska. I've been getting chicks from them for several years now with great...
EMU Egg update!
I weighed the eggs last week and they have all lost about 15% of their original weight. I had to use a different scale though as I think the first one I used was rounding the weights up to the nearest 50grams which is throwing everything off. I was able to calculate what the...
These are my first Emus. They can't be candled, but instead I will watch their weight each week. They should lose a percentage of their weight each week if all is well. I have it calculated out for each egg to be sure they lose the right amount. It's all about humidity and health of the egg...
I've never hatched Emu eggs before...hatched chickens, quails, ducks, and geese, even personally incubated a few humans, but never emu!!
Can't wait to see the little guys.
This is my first hatch-a-long too. Am I supposed to do anything besides rotate my eggs and chat?
