    Feeding injured chick

I have a baby about a week old with her momma. She had been getting severely picked in by the other hens ( as in drug around by the neck at breakfast) and accidentally got stepped on by the dog yesterday. Poor thing is in rough shape but momma is keeping her in fairly good spirits. She doesnt...

    Turkey / chicken sex

I've just begun ranging my baby flock on about 8 week old (clearly tom) Turkey poult and some pullets with my older chicken flock. Just came across him violently trying to mount one of the hens yesterday, which I can see can be a big problem. Hes barely a teenager and bigger than they are. He...

    Flock funk

A few things have been happening in my flock lately and I'm trying to sort out exactly what is going on, so this may be a bit long... first off, we have seen egg production drop dramatically in the last few weeks. We had our typically freeranging flock locked up in the run for about a week due...

Can someone help me with maran genetics?

I just had two clutches of precious chicks hatch. One is from a splash maran momma and the other is buff orpington. The daddy is a black (copper? ) maran. I'm not entirely sure that all the eggs hatched were from these two hens either, so trying to see what I've got. And at this point they are...

    hot chicks

I came home tonight and my little babies I got yesterday were panting. Its pretty hot in there so I moved around the heat lamp so there were cooler spots but I'm worried there still won't be enough room for them to really chill out. How bad are hot chicks? Will they work it out ? Will they b OK...

My roommates stupid dog just killed my favorite new little pullet. She was a blue maran and I was so excited. My roommate just is not training her dogs and I asked her to feed the chickens and she must have let him get in. I bet this is not going over well with my already anxious rooster. I...
