At first I thought for sure this was a cockeral but I'm wondering if anyone who has experience with the breed might have a second opinion. It's a copper marans cross about 7 weeks (I think). His/her comb is still pretty pale and smallish feet. One of the other marans x has a very dark red comb...
Very possible... The sellers made it sound as if they came from somewhere reputable and so far the ameraucanas are looking promising. But I really have no info so who knows :/
But I also don't think they had any idea of what they were talking about. Was sold barred rocks that turned out to be black ameraucanas. Bought the red ones as ameraucanas ... sigh... I've learned a lot since then
Last time I posted the guess was speckled sussex but now they're looking like RIR to me. As chicks they looked different from what I thought RIR chicks looked like... but now I'm not sure! I'm not sure what colour their legs are classified as.. Very pale yellow maybe white? Dark beaks... I just...
Thanks for your help. I'll try to remember to post when they're bigger and we can see what they happen to be! I've already let the sellers know, so hopefully they'll put in some research next time... and hopefully I'll be more wary lol
All I know is the varieties that the farm had I bought them from to figure out a "local" hatchery. I suspect True North hatchery since they're nearby and have the same types... but that's just a guess. The people I purchased them from are convinced the brown ones are Ameraucana and have no idea...
The hatchery they came from doesn't have either of those types. I suspect he's an EE too... I have a few other black chicks that look different from him. Also supposed to be barred rock but no spot...
$6 each. I can't wrap my mind around why EEs are called Ameraucana. I have black ameraucanas from a farm who shows their birds, so would they be true ameraucana in that case?
I love all my birds no matter what they are, just eager to understand!
