I like to use a thermometer the first couple days and then just let the chick tell me what to do.
I mean they are going to spend the rest of their lives bossing me around so why not start them young.
And Monty, now I am upset Maribeth got to meet you and I still haven't.
Isn't she one of the sweetest people you have ever met? I am so glad that our paths crossed. I always love to hear from her. Sorry we missed you at Harrah. Are you going to try to make Cement this Saturday? I hope so...
They also need to have someone watching the kids after the auction while everyone is trying to cash out. That is when the problem is the biggest, I think. And I know that is when the kids were dropping them everywhere. Wouldn't it be easier at least with the chicks if they just handed them to...
It is so funny that I came across this thread tonight.
Just today we were working on revamping our pens and uncovered a mouse and Chrissi(standard Cochin) was on it in no time. I was stupidly not aware that they would do this. In no time everyone was chasing her around the pen. She killed it...
Okay I started out with 18 (6 that were not great)eggs in the bator and after numerous candelings I was down to 7. Sat night one started pipping and was out Sun morning. Very happy and healthy. To the point I had to move him to the brooder yesterday because he was pecking at the other eggs...
I agree with tiki. I did the exact same thing. I cut the lid of the carton up to use to prop the eggs in the carton up and then just switched it for the turning. The only thing I did differently is I cut the bottom of the cartons to just hold 6 eggs each. So no one would have trouble in...
Monty...
Thank you so much for looking into all of this for us with the Harrah auction. I will still continue to go every chance I get. As long as I know they are actively working to correct the problems, I will continue to go and get myself into trouble with to much spending. LOL
To all...
I am still here and very sad! Only one egg hatched. WHen we candled right before we stopped turning them. There was movement in these seven, but now only one hatched. I already had to take him to the brooder. He was so active he was tearing up the incuabtor and pecking at the other eggs...
LOL Things we do as children!!!! At least you all tried to hatch eggs.
When I was little we would have a contest everytime we went to my grandparents. We would see who could gather the most acorns. Well since I was the youngest I never won. But appearantly I was the smartest (not really)...
I found this on horse.com Hope it helps.
Wood chewing increases if the horses' access to forage is limited; if they have inadequate feed and/or fiber in their rations; in cold, wet weather; or if the horses are confined and bored. Has the horses' quality of pasture, type of hay, or activity...
I am desperately looking for some standard Buff Brahmas. Eggs preferred but would do pullets if price is right. I really would rather avoid shipping but I am having trouble finding any locally. So if you have any or know anyone that does please let me know ASAP.
Thank you!

Ok I just got home from the Harrah auction and things weren't much better than how I heard it went last time. Huge difference from the first time I went.

Sorry I have not been able to post lately. They have changed my meds and they are really taking a toll on me.
As for updates, Michael and Sonny have not been heard or seen, since the night we think they were sold. So we have to assume that they are in a better home than where they were...

Age depends on wether or not you plan to ship. Price depends on breed, but I would guess around $2.00 for chicks and around $3.00 for keets. But that also depends on how you advertise or what people at the auction are looking for. Which also answers the guestion of if the auction is...
