I love all the responses!! No we do not live by a nuclear power plant, though that would explain it! LOL
We were starting to wonder if maybe they were bred with Brahamas due to their size....but they are definitely silkies as they have 5 toes
I thought all silkies we're bantams. We got ours from Tractor Supply in a mixed bantam group....ended up with 5 silkies & 5 cochins. We got them in March and they are HUGE! They are bigger then my Jersey Giants that we got last yr!
We currently have 14 hens. We just got 10 bantam chicks (5 I know are silkies), we are also looking at getting some light Brahamas.
Can I put the bantams in with our current chickens? Also i believe the Brahamas are much bigger than regular chickens, can I also put them in the same coop?
This is our 1st winter with chickens...we live in MN and this has been out 1st truly cold week. Mr. Ballchinion (our rooster) got his waddles & comb frostbit the beginning of the week. All of our chickens have since been confined to their room in the barn! He also looks like he might be molting...
We have 8 ducks. Our run is about 16' x 25'. We currently don't have anything in it, so it is all dirt (well lately mud)....except for around their pool we have patio pavers to try to keep the pool mess down.
Thanks for the help everyone! Turns out 1/2 of them were juat tail feathers coming in (after looking at rach of them closely today). The other 1/2 got cleaned up and sprayed with blu-kote
My chicks are 3 weeks old. I have a bunch of different kinda of chicks.we have 1 chick that has started pulling tail feathers off of the others (we're pretty sure its our biggest Red Ranger). He has gotton our other 4 red rangers, 1 of our Rainbows (I believe its a rainbow) & has gotten 1...
It doesn't appear broken. Haven't felt any swelling or that anythingis out of place. I'm thinking it could just be sprained.
She's doing a good job to baby it -but the poor girl keeps getting stepped on
The other day my dog got too excited and hopped in our brooder! Scared all of our poor chicks! One chick git his foot stuck in the feeder, the got herself free. Now she limps and won't put any weight on that foot.
Is there anything I can/should do to help it heal, or will it heal on its own?
Here's pictures of the face. Legs are yellow. We got them from Hoovers Hatchery & picked them up at Ag Partners...but we've only been able to identify our Jersey Giants & Silver Laced.
My poor little chick didn't make it. Does anybody know which kind it is? I'm thinking it's an Americana it Rainbow Dixie? Out others we got are Red Ranger, ISA BR, Silver laced & gold laced and Jersey Giants
Hi everyone! We have never had chickens or ducks before. We have 32 chicks & 8 ducklings arriving on Wednesday!! We have our co-op started, but I'm still working on the final details.
