    What gender?

Actually 5, 7, 9, & 10 are all the same chicken. #8 and 11 are the other LO.:idunno Getting pictures of them now that they are out with the big girls is so challenging...

    What gender?

Thank you, chicken knowledgeable, friends! My suspicions are that the Isbar, BCM, 1 LO and 1 Brabanter (mohawk) are males. #9 is the one I think is a pullet but I do not have much successful experience with gender calls... I have an opportunity to send the cockerels to a hobby farm that does...

    What gender?

I think I may have a pullet and cockerel in both the LO's and Brabs...

    What gender?

These sweet chicks are approximately 8 weeks. There are 9. Three are definitely pullets (a Cream Legbar and 2 Swedish Flowers) but the other 6, I fear have some gentlemanly tendencies. The others in question are Black Copper Marans (1), Isbar (1), Lavender Orpingtons (2), and Brabanters (2)...

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

Alright, will try again at the start of August. Thank you for replying to my post!

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

OK... Sorry it took me so long.. We have 9 four-week old chicks. I am pretty sure a couple are boys wondering about guesses whether pullet or cockerel. Here are the Brabanters. This is my first time with this breed and I can not find much online about them. There are two. One is cream and one...

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

Such a bummer. Of the four, he is the calmest and easiest to pick up. Comes up to me every day and just sits down in front of me, takes dandelion leaves from my hand, or watches me clean the coop. I hate to sell him but we can not have roos this close to the city. *sigh*

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

Thank you! I will get pics of them later this week and post them here. I volunteer at a day camp all week so I probably wont get to it until Friday. Thank you all for your help :)

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

Thank you! The variety and beauty of the chicken breeds is one of the top draws for me. I really wanted that EE to be a pullet because she was so pretty. It seems like the cutest chicks are always boys :barnie My husband really likes the pattern on the GLW - he is happy that the consensus is...

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

Oh! So red splotches = cockerel? OK. I didn't know that. Also, if the red comb before 16 weeks indicates a male, I think (very sadly) that I have four more roos in the making... I have an Isbar, 2 Lavender Orps, and a Black Copper Marans who have red combs already and only 3 weeks old :hmm Oh...

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

Shoot! If you are all correct, then my husband was right - and he doesn't even know anything about chickens! :lau I got the EE to add color to my (eventual) egg basket so I am bummed. What are the distinguishing features that led to the "roo" diagnosis about the EE vs the GLW? The GLW's behavior...

    Pullet/Cockerel Queries?

My husband and I are debating the gender of these 8-9 week old chickens. I think one is a little Roo in training and he thinks it is the other. (We heard a suspicious squawk this morning!) One is a Gold Laced Wyandotte. The other (white and red) is an Easter Egger (RIR cross, I guess). Praying...

    Pullet or Cockerel?

LOL! I had no idea there was a good way to take pics :D My husband and I just wanted to make sure we showed off his/her beauty in case our next stop is the sale website ... so sad. I will try starting my own and see if that gets me anywhere. Thanks for the tip!

    Pullet or Cockerel?

Am I supposed to add onto this post to figure out the gender of my chicken or do I start a new thread altogether? (Even though I joined 5 year ago, I never used BYC much since I had a lot of in person friends with chicken experience.) My husband and I are debating the gender of this 8-9 week old...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

This is a first egg we found in our nest box today. We have 3 others already laying. This one appears to have some blood on it. We haven't had any thing like this before. One or two with a little poo but this is new. Anybody know what we should look for as far as illness? All girls are eating...

    Sickly Chicky (con't)

Thanks everyone! I was just outside with them an hour ago and she was absolutely perfect. In fact, she seems much friendlier towards us than she was before all this happened. :love I don't think she's laid yet but it's hard to know... We have 8 chickens and there are only 3 that I know for sure...

    Sickly Chicky (con't)

My husband would've loved to call them the "Butt sisters" . It was from an old comedy routine... :lau Bertha Butt... or something... If we get more in the Spring, I will name them after my mom's old aunts and grandmas. They had great old-time names like Lottie, Margie, Millie, Viv, Ardell...

    Sickly Chicky (con't)

It is totally possible. We never saw it but the chicken yard is pretty large (at least 100x20) and it would take awhile to comb through it and look... plus they are constanstly churning up the soil and leaves as they scratch /dig through every square inch looking for tasty bits. :lau We have 2...
