Anyone ever see a Peking Rouen cross duckling...does it look like this guy? I bought the eggs from people that had ducks mingling with wild ducks and wondering if this is a different type? (There are two like this all brown) [/IMG]
Lacrystol, good call on the sticky chicks....out of all of them only two hatched on their own. The rest were stuck. As soon as I took a bit of shell off most of them just twisted right out, no wasting time lol.
Some had a harder time so I just opened up enough and covered the membrane with wet...
I got your message after I had helped a bit...just took off a bit of the top for him, the membrane was yellow/brown around the air cell. Then I moistened him up and put him back for the day.....and came home to the little guy stumbling around and another one is out too. I'm not sure if I would...
they are rouens and Peking ducks :)
Yesterday morning there was a pop in one of the eggs and in the afternoon he started making the hole bigger and now it's 11 hours later and he's still sitting there with his beak out. Meanwhile 7-8 other eggs have externally pipped. I am now on day 29 and...
Okay, so I candled them and I barely see any space. Where there is space it is orangey yellow like it's been throughout the whole process, it looks like the yolk sac I guess. More of them are pipped further in the air cell (I hear tapping or clicking) and heard a peep !:)
I still see no breaks...
It was at 75-80% throughout so I lowered to 60-65% and the air cells grew just enough. I made them a tiny safe hole, hopefully they will be okay. I really thought ducks had to have the high humidity but that's only near the end...yikes. I've learned a lot so far
My duck eggs are on day 27. I realized at about day 23 that my humidity was too high throughout, so I lowered it until yesterday. I took a peek candling and most have internally pipped since day 25 and still no external pip. Should I make a small air hole? I'm worried they might suffocate since...
