*GRAPHIC* Any idea what could have done this to one of my hens?

I ended up burying her, but not sure if that will be an issue? And thank you, I’m suspecting now that it might be a possum, since they are common around here. She was one of three sisters that I adopted long ago 😞 a great hen indeed, and she loved jumping into my garden lol

I don’t think so 😞 We don’t really have those around here. I’ve been worried about releasing them now

*GRAPHIC* Any idea what could have done this to one of my hens?

I have several hens and one rooster. I usually let them free roam and haven’t had an incident in several years. We don’t have coyotes or foxes near here. I mostly cats, hawks, and possums. I went outside to check on the hens and noticed that there were a bunch of feathers thrown around near the...

Need Advice on How to Care for An Injured Rooster

Hello all! Here’s an update over a month later! I want to thank you all who replied and gave me advice. Luckily and thankfully, stitches weren’t needed and my rooster made it! I cleaned his wounds daily using saline solution, spraying Betadine and then adding Neosporin once or twice a day for...

Need Advice on How to Care for An Injured Rooster

Thank you! I will keep a close eye on the two. They won’t be staying outside until we get the coop fixed up and our rooster heals up. It’s almost 6am here and I haven’t slept yet. I’m still pretty broken over this. It’s just something they didn’t deserve. Thank you again, any advice is welcome!

Need Advice on How to Care for An Injured Rooster

Thank you so much for your advice! I’m going to go out first thing in the morning and get him those ointments along with some snacks to help them both out. Also, I’m not sure if you’re experienced with this, but do you think my hen will be fine on her own? I’ve been wanting to get more chicks in...

Need Advice on How to Care for An Injured Rooster

It was 3AM and my dad was getting a drink of water in the kitchen when he noticed our cats looking out the window to our backyard. A dog got into our yard and somehow managed to get into our chicken coop. Our rooster fought for his life and is badly injured (unfortunately, we lost 2 hens and...

First time incubating chicks! Need advice.

UPDATE: Our first chick has hatched! It is so precious! The other 4 eggs may or may not be far from hatching. However, we bought 2 one-day-old chicks and set them into the brooder so that the other chick will have some company to bond with once we move it out when it's ready. All is well so far :)

First time incubating chicks! Need advice.

Yes, this is the only egg that seems to be hatching right now. The chick just now made a small crack in the shell :) I took the advice of using a wet sponge instead and this Texas weather is perfect right now, especially with all the rain outside hahaha... As for the brooder, we are setting one...

First time incubating chicks! Need advice.

To begin with, our only broody hen had her first chick almost 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the chick passed away and our hen was no longer broody. I decided to take matters into my own hands and built an incubator out of a styrofoam cooler. We lost 4 eggs and are left with 5, which are doing...
