I was wondering when is was safe to let my new chickens out in the run with the older ones. The "older" ones are 6+ month silkies - 1 roo and 4 laying hens. The new ones are almost 3 months old. 4 cochin bantams (one is a roo), a polish, and a fayoumi. They have been around each other quite...
Definitely correct on the breed! Thanks guys. Assuming they are both hens...but probably still too early. We already have a roo and there is another baby roo in this group so fingers are crossed that there are no more!
Actually in Chesterland....not sure I'll be able to give them away anyway. Kids have already become attached. We will just have to play it by ear. Hopefully the roosters establish their pecking order and get along. Ha...probably dreaming! I don't have room for more hens, unless we get rid of the...
Hi! I am in NE Ohio. Chardon Area. I recently got four Mottled Cochin Bantams from Meyer Hatchery. They were st run. I am pretty sure 2 of them are roos. I already have a silkie roo and maybe another I picked up from the bargin bin. No way I can keep them all. They are only about 2 weeks old...
Ok well the tables have turned. Poor Dopey! Schuster will not leave her alone! Keeps trying to mate with her. She has just been hiding in the corner for the last 2 days! Any advise? I tried to talk with him about wooing her, but he just wants to get down to business! Has no interest in any of...
Yes they are from Tractor Supply so my expectations were low... not looking to show or anything. They are pretty big as well...especially the roo! I was more curious than anything. They are still relatively young so I was just curious what to expect. Thanks to all that answered. I will check out...
OK.... I'm loving all the Silkies pics on here! They are adorable. But they have me wondering about my own. We were told they are silkie bantams, but mine aren't near as fluffy as the ones I am seeing. Could they be a mix? I don't really care because I wasn't planning on showing or breeding...
This is our roo Schuster
And these are of Dopey
The bunch of them....some may be roos but Schuster is just so much bigger than the rest if them. You can see him and Dopey in the back.
Hello everyone. I am new to the chicken world and have some behavior questions. We have 5 white silkie bantams. They are only about 4 months old. One we are sure is a rooster and one we are pretty sure is a hen.... the others we are assuming are hens, due to size and looks, but I have been told...
I'll let you all know when they get older! Thanks for the feedback! Water and food are outside the coop...so they will have to come out....but the coop is up off the ground a couple feet and run will be covered in places. So I'm hoping for some snow free zones!
It doesn't get below 0 too often. Usually in the teens or 20's most of the winter. I used thick wood siding to build the coop. I'm still working on the ventilation. Right now 2 windows and the door are fine, but in the winter I plan on covering the windows. The coop will be pretty full as well...
We have 5 White Silkie Bantams. One of which we are certain is a roo. Not sure about the others yet. The chicks we just got are Mottled Cochin Bantams. I think Cochins are really cute! We also got 2 chicks that were unidentified. So we are in for a surprise! None of them were sexed. Just really...
New to BYC and new to chicken keeping. I have found lots of good info here and I have to say I'm hooked. Got our first chicks this Spring and just got a few more this week! Looking forward to lots of great info and advise! - Kristen In Ohio
