    New Puppy Questions?****UPDATE****

thanks for all the replies everyone! Here's the update: Took him to Banfield in Petsmart today, didn't know they had vet hours 7days/wk. Anyway, sure enough he was anemic-not scarey to need a blood transfusion yet-but he would have been there in a day or two. So, he was also ridded w/worms...

    New Puppy Questions?****UPDATE****

Hey Guys, We've had dogs and puppies in the past, and are familiar with them. But we just got a new 7week Mini-Dachshund puppy, he was ridded w/flease when I got him home. Even to where he had a crusty patch under his ear, there were a TON of them. Anyway, I made a bath of a little dish...

Okay, so what do I do w/these eggs now?????

I think I'll just boil them and feed them back to the chickens and dogs. They'll like the special treat, better safe than sorry. I feel kinda weird about eating them after them sitting under the hen for a couple days. I actually let them set at room temp too, but the ones under the hen are...

Okay, so what do I do w/these eggs now?????

I have hen, BO, that has gone broody. Our eggs are not fertilized, no Roo-except a chick roo, and I let her sit on them for the past two days....just to see if she would sit. Well, I had to push her off them this morning and there were 11 eggs under her!!!!! So, I wish they were fertile as...

Look what I got for Easter...

Two sweet, 1 1/2 week old pygmy bucklings!!! I'm soooo happy! These are our first goats and we are extatic, if these guys are as much fun as chickens I will be in heaven!! Here they are, just got them last night, they are being bottle fed as the mama orphaned them. They don't have names yet...

Why we must be careful with our brooder lights.

Thinking about getting a couple goats...

He All! First off I'm officially addicted to chickens, and I love my chickens...we now have 8hens and 10 chicks in our backyard flock. DH and I were talking about the possobility of getting some goats, pygmy or nigerian dwarf...some breed of very small goats. We live in a neighborhood...

How do I keep my chickens in the yard???

We let our chickens free range different parts of the day, generally if I'm out and around the yard already. The only way I've been able to keep them around our yard is to give them a few treats to get them back in. Once they realize when I call them they get a treat, sometimes I don't have to...

Questions about a Broody, from a Newbie?

Hey Guys, I've got one of my laying girls, who has been laying for about 3months. Well, the past couple of days she has been sitting in the nesting box and when I come to check for eggs she is all puffed out and today she was a little growlie. She still let me get the eggs out from under her...

My rescue chick from TSC *Pics Added!*

good for you!! yay chickie! I was in TSC last weekend, and was also disturbed by a couple of things. For one, the heat lamp didn't seem to be low enough for them as they were trampling and huddling under where the heat lamp was, as dd's and I were standing there I saw 3 dead ones that they...

    Baby Chicks Fighting!!! Help Please

I was also going to say if you're not using a red light yet, that may be the problem. Whenver I had white light in the brooder the chicks went after each other like crazy. Put the red light on and immediately they were calm.

    Medicated or non-medicated feed?

Quote: We have used both, but prefer red. Red is fine during day/night. The white really does seem to make them fistier, they would seem to be really hyper w/the white light. I put the red light on and there is peace in the brooder again.

    Medicated or non-medicated feed?

I'm sure you'll get varying answers on this but this last batch of chicks we got, we fed them the medicated starter feed for the first 4 weeks. I bought this group from an individual from CL and wasn't sure on their health. Last summer we got a batch of chicks from our feed store that were...

What color egg will this one lay?

I have what was supposed to be a Blue Jersey Giant....she sprouted some muffs last week. Soooo, the guy I got her from does have some pure white Ameraucanas. I"m assuming she is now a JG X w/ Amer or EE. Just wondering, will she still lay the pale brown color of a JG?? Thanks!

    Spur Buds?

phew!!! I was starting to get nervous that all 10 of my chicks were roos!!!!! I think a lot of them are, but I'd like to at least have a couple pullets.
  17. FluffyChic

How early do pullet combs redden?

I have 5 week old chicks, some have definite red combs already. I'm assuming those are roos...is it safe to say then, that if they DO NOT have a red comb yet it's a pullet? Some that I thought were pullets are starting to get pink now....when do PULLETS actuall start to get pink on their own...

    Spur Buds?

Are all chickens born with them? I know they don't actually develop the spurs until 6-8months. But I'm looking at all 10 of my 5 week old chicks and most have the little bump or bud. Does this mean they all are roos? Thanks!
