I am:
Completely new to chickens.
Thoroughly addicted to my new chickens.
Looking forward to learning as much as possible about my new little feathery friends.
Once upon a time...
When we recently moved, and I found myself with an acre of land in the country, lots of scrap and...
Ok, I posted these chickies a couple weeks ago when I first got them, but I still have no idea what they are. I called Privett, where they came from to the TSC, but they were unable to help either. SO, once again, I beseech the mighty knowledgeable chicken folks to help me figure out what these...
i thought easter eggers all have green legs...? I have had easater eggers, these dont look anything like them...They are from privetyt, but they dont have an online catalouge with pics or anything...
I think they are very pretty I like the bluish colors...
Thanks. I have no clue what they are...put them in the what breed section...feel free to take a look! I have 2 that are definitely black australorp, and then 4 that i have no clue about, with 2 definite mysteries.
Well, as a few of you may know, yesterday I awoke to find Hagrid (my favorite little pullet that was a few weeks old easter egger with the biggest beard I have ever seen) was carried off by something very large, leaving a trail of her sweet little feathers through the back yard into the woods...

Well, last night I got ALOT done on the coop, was out there in the dark with a flashlight in my mouth and a drill and hammer in my hands, lol. Combined all the outside chickies into the tractor that wasn't touched, and didn't see any evidence of a repeat visit from Hagrid's kidnapper.
I went...
Lol, but should I let them do that? Should I just throw them in there even knowing there will be fighting? I thought that having them being able to see but not touch would have made that part go away, I always see many other people saying that is the key to getting them together with minimal...
Hencackle,
I used to live in Elizabethton as well, on West G street, went to school there and everything!
Penturner,
Wow. I guess I will look in to who I can contact about it... Really don't want to kill something unless I have to, and kind of worried about getting hurt in the process with...
well i am sure there are bears around, thats for sure. I guess I never realized they were so close. I have no idea where to put them until i can finish the coop. The only other option i can think of is trying to tack something more sturdy together tonight... those things i have assempled ar at...
WOW. I never even thought that I could have bears!!! My backyard, where the chickens are, is fenced in, but from the fence down to the end of the property is a steep hill that runs into a very swift pretty large creek (Sinking creek, if you ken). Our property is surrounded on 2 sides by it, with...
I have a shed, but a.) the littles 3 chicks are in there and b.) I don't think I could fit something large enough to keep them in in my shed, due to all the other things stored in there.
A bear, really? How would it have gotten in the yard without trampling the fence or busting it or the gate down?
Hey everyone!
Well, my chickening has been going good thus far (with the exception of last night, but i am not retyping all that, you can see it in the predators and pests section) with the exception of my mean little chickies! I have assorted bantams, app 10-12 weeks old, and some standard...
Well, yesterday we had lots of scraps for the chickens because of the Easter dinner. I am afraid that because I gave my sweet birdies a bunch of scraps they didnt finish, I may have brought about the harm of my sweet Hagrid.
I am, still working on my coop, but in the meantime I have 2 large...
I cant say for a fact it isnt anything serious, but my Cubalaya bantams do it from time to time, sounds like a tiny abbreviated sneeze, and they are just fine have done it since I got them over a month ago.
