Love the last post, that's what I need...for a few months a year the creek gets low enough that I need something to let the girls out into. Our neighbours have dogs that will surely kill them, but the creek provides a natural barrier 3 (of the nice) months a yr.
Thank you.
I just recently learned that "electric chicken fencing or netting" is available. After reading the specs and description form reps I'm I have a few questions for those who use it:
1) don't chickens just fly over the barrier if they are spooked by predators?
2) do you clip the wings of birds...
Alright then, do any of you have great ideas of how I can repurpose the 3 toilets I have sitting in my yard for my new coop? It seems the only other place for them is the dump because I already have enough gardening space and don't need them as planters.
I had thought of using the bowls for...
So...how any hours of "other" light are your chicks getting? We keep our heat lamp on all the time and turn it up at night becuase it gets quite cold, but I've found differing or no info about how much light my 3 week old, layers should be getting.
We're wondering if there are folks in NORTHERN ONTARIO that have chickens that are not in heated coops? Are your walls just well insulated?
If so, what breeds do you have?
