Our ducks live a 7 minute walk away, in a pond in the woods near our house. We feed them often to keep them loyal, but know that, in the summer at least, they are fairly self sufficient. We have three females- a Cayuga, a Khaki Campbell, and a Pekin. We love them to death as they are somewhat...
We did not have much success with our recent hatch (only our second, ever!) and only 2 of our original 8 eggs survived. Janice and Thelma. Is it OK to raise the two of them on their own? We have an adult flock of around 25-30 birds. Will it be alright to add them, or will they have to stay in...
This morning, the incubator was left open by my brother. 8 hours later, I come home and realize what happened. The eggs were about ~5 days along, could they have survived? They’re in our kitchen so the temperature was about 65-70 degrees.
TexasSam- Yes, the head was intact. Thanks!
Hope Hughes- We live in a VERY rural part of town and little to no cats in our area. We have seen a strange cat around, though.
The following photo is one of my newly deceased 7 month-old Amber Sex-Link bantam chicken (aka Demonai). She was one of our favorites, and finding her corpse in my backyard was unsettling. If you can't tell from the photo, everything was gone except for her head and wings. We've also found her...
Sorry, I'm new to these particular breeds, and am also not sure exactly what most of them are. When I search for the egg online, I come up with nothing, and am left more confused than before. I was just wondering if anyone else had eggs that fit that description.
A bunch of our spring chicks just started laying, and we've got a mystery egg. It's small, but not bantam small, and round. It's a dark-brown, pinky colour with tiny white speckles all over it.
I have no real idea, but our dobermans seem to protect our chickens quite well. The chickens hate them XD. They are also the biggest sweethearts. I've heard Aussies are good, though.
We have ducks and chickens. They all sleep together and get along very well. Actually, the ducks get along better with the chickens than the chickens do!
We bought 5 "pullets" from Tractor Supply and ended up with our Roo, Charm. We go into the pen with a whiffle ball bat, and he would literally bite and NOT LET GO as a chick. But he'll attempt murder on enemies of his flock. Which is strange because he's an absolute bully.
Don't know if this thread is still active after 5 years, but.... yeah!
In a month or so I'm getting 3 goats:
Grover: Super playful, loves climbing, running, butting, and people.
Hazel: Friendly, loves butting and being held.
Juniper: Timid, loves little spaces, running, and being held.
