Day 17. Not scared anymore. I HAVE WIGGLERS !!!!

Started up the 2nd bator. Getting ready for an early lock down. Followed my gut and two hours into this (?) ... EIGHT WIGGLERS ... Some from the non-advanced batch. :D

    new batch..join me!

I will NEVER recommend going into lock down early "just because". Today though, my chicken mama gut proved me right. I hooked up the 2nd bator, got the temps right/humidity to 70%, moved the eggs over and now I have EIGHT wigglers !!!!!! Three of them are not from the "advanced" ones. Talk...

Day 17. Not scared anymore. I HAVE WIGGLERS !!!!

I THINK ... NOT sure ... I may have heard some egg pecking. Will keep an ear on that. IF it is confirmed without a shadow of a doubt ... the entire batch is going into lock down today. Having placed the advanced eggs to one side, the MAYBE pecking is coming from the other side. Humidity...

Hey everyone ... I posted a thread ... this is the link ... Not trying to cross-post, just trying to save my unborn chicks. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/672548/day-17-getting-scared-start-early-lock-down. I am freaking out. Do I start lock down early ??? These are VERY WELL advanced...

Day 17. Not scared anymore. I HAVE WIGGLERS !!!!

Have 43 eggs & today is day 17. But there are 10-15 eggs that have been advanced from the moment they were placed into incubation. They traveled from Tennessee to Florida, in the heat. I am unable to get a good photo to show what I am talking about so hopefully this explanation will do it...

    new batch..join me!

Oops! I messed up on my dates! I did not place them in on the 15th. Mine were placed in incubation on May 17th at 9am. I believe it is safe to say since they were in from early AM, that counts as day 1? If so .... today is day 16. Lock down will be Sunday. Hatch out by Wednesday. My gosh...

    new batch..join me!

FoxyMom ... I came in late on this hatch out conversation, as well. Welcome to the back of the line. LOL It is hard to believe how fast this went. Maybe because I now have a real incubator, verses a homemade aquarium, which never really worked for me. And I have 43 eggs. There was 73 or...

    new batch..join me!

TY for the welcome. :) Each night I candle, there is growth. Rather from the body itself or the veins getting thicker. It takes me about 5 minutes to go through the eggs & it is very humid in the back room with the incubator. Would love to linger and enjoy the chicks-in-eggs but too risky...

    new batch..join me!

Hope it is not to late for me to join in on the talk? I posted a note that I put in on 5/15/12 & someone directed me over here. Been reading everyone's success, and sad losses. Now that it is gearing down to the time of lock down, I'm battling temp's since yesterday. Florida had tropical...

Set eggs on 5-17-2012. Day 3.

Anyone else out there on or about my date of setting eggs? I have 73 BO's already set & warming nicely. Did the first candling tonight. A few are a little iffy on fertilization but I will check back tomorrow or the next day. Seen only 3 with veins. The rest have that beautiful burnt orange...

Am I at day 17 ?? Calculation issues

Eggs shipped 8/2 from MyPetChicken to Florida. (Buff Orph) Received on 8/4. Placed under Broody on 8/5. Placed in incubator on 8/7. (She sat on all the eggs - fertilized & un-fertile. Set her up in her own home, she flew the coop & left the eggs. That's when I said enough was enough.) Now...

Broody hen issues : Eggs now in incubator

Thank you both. This is confirmation I did right by placing the eggs in the incubator. Was doubting myself. I'm still allowing her to sit on 1 unfertilized egg. I rotate it each day with a new one and toss the day old out into the woods for safe measure. I'm in Florida & on my deck it's...

Broody hen issues : Eggs now in incubator

My broody BR, "Big Mama", kept sitting on ALL of the unfertilized eggs in ALL of the nesters. Fine. I'll hook ya up. Created a seperate section for her, in a beautiful, secluded wooden chicken coop with lots of room to run inside chicken wire and I ordered 8 BO eggs. Then we made the big...

Light Brahma - Want a roo !! Is "He" ??

TY Tim. I will try to get better shots tomorrow. What makes you think possibly a roo? Is it the tail? I've had 15 LB's (just lost them all to coryza) & none of my pullets tails were like that & his height is insane.
