A friend gave me 3 hens that had been laying. I've had them for 4 days and not one of them has layed. Does it take awhile for them to get used to their new home?
I think she's a game chicken. She's black with some red on her body. I just have tw chickens. If she's broody, will her sister start trying to hatch eggs as well?
My girls have been laying regularly since Easter. But now, 1 of them spends all her time in the egg box but she hasn't layed any eggs for 3 days now. Is something wrong with her?
I have 2 little hens that come running towards me when I come outside. I think it's because they think I have a treat for them. I usually bring something out so they will love me ( I'm all about buying affection!). One hen will squat when I say "good girl" and the other tries to stay out of...
I've been enjoying reading all the posts and I'm really learning a lot:) For example when I got my chicks the lady told me they were "dominiquers". Whch I later learned was dominiques. But I don't know why some chickens are called EE. Can someone tell me what that means?
I just took them some cut up cantelope and the seeds were the first thing they went for:D. I was surprised because I thought they would like the flesh better. THey are always surprising me!.

I had left over spaghetti and gave some to my two girls this morning - who loved it. But I want to make sure that it's not just "empty calories" before I give them more. What do you think?
My 2 month old chickens were attacked by a racoon the other night. At least we think it was a racoon. The poor chickens' heads were pulled through the wire. So now my "dirty dozen" is down to 7. 3 hens and 4 roosters ( I think ) I'm a new chicken owner so I'm not sure which is which.
I hope I haven't gotten myself into more than I intended. I am getting a little concerned with 12 chickens. I willl have to "thin" my flock as soon as I can tell male from female!
I'm keeping them in my classroom until Tuesday. There is no school over Thanksgiving so I've got to bring them home. I have a little pen at home that's about 4ft x2ft x 2ft that has chicken wire on the top and sides and is open on the bottom. I want to be able to put them in the yard to dig...
My kids are LOVING these chickens. Every day I have students who are asking to clean the cage or feed or water them. I think it's been a good experience for them because not only are they learning responsiblity, they are learning to be kind and gentle to little creatures.
