    new girls in flock

A friend gave me 3 hens that had been laying. I've had them for 4 days and not one of them has layed. Does it take awhile for them to get used to their new home?

I don't have any fertile eggs for my chicken that wants to be a mommy but what if I went to the local feed and seed and bought her some babies?

Need to vent- I'm a little p.o at my chickens *sigh*

I have 2 little hens that come running towards me when I come outside. I think it's because they think I have a treat for them. I usually bring something out so they will love me ( I'm all about buying affection!). One hen will squat when I say "good girl" and the other tries to stay out of...

Thanks! I thought EE were chickens that no one knew what they were - chickens people got as chicks for Easter and then didn't know what to do with.

    cooked spaghetti

I read somewhere on this site that you can freeze the spaghetti and give it to them when it's hot. And it's been HOT here in Central Texas.

    cooked spaghetti

Hi you all, I had left over spaghetti and gave some to my two girls this morning - who loved it. But I want to make sure that it's not just "empty calories" before I give them more. What do you think?

    racoon disaster

My 2 month old chickens were attacked by a racoon the other night. At least we think it was a racoon. The poor chickens' heads were pulled through the wire. So now my "dirty dozen" is down to 7. 3 hens and 4 roosters ( I think ) I'm a new chicken owner so I'm not sure which is which.

    new chicken owner

I hope I haven't gotten myself into more than I intended. I am getting a little concerned with 12 chickens. I willl have to "thin" my flock as soon as I can tell male from female!

    new chicken owner

I'm keeping them in my classroom until Tuesday. There is no school over Thanksgiving so I've got to bring them home. I have a little pen at home that's about 4ft x2ft x 2ft that has chicken wire on the top and sides and is open on the bottom. I want to be able to put them in the yard to dig...

    new chicken owner

My kids are LOVING these chickens. Every day I have students who are asking to clean the cage or feed or water them. I think it's been a good experience for them because not only are they learning responsiblity, they are learning to be kind and gentle to little creatures.

First time out of the pen

Thanks. Yes, it's 70 during the day. I'd be afraid to leave them outside at night. I'm going to keep them in the classroom for right now.
