    The coop build has begun!!

I have quite the plucky little Dominique. She had to peck me a few times before "allowing" me to pet her briefly. She pecked me last night as well when my neighbor and I rounded them up to crate them for the trip through the back yard to their house. At the very end I got what appears to be a...

    90 Degree Elbows

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Charlotte-Pipe-3-in-dia-90-Degree-PVC-Elbow-Fitting/3132777 Heres a link to what I got at lowes. After I drilled the hole to make it fit, it seems like it is a very long way for them to be able to reach in and get the food. I am thinking about cutting the flange off...

    90 Degree Elbows

Yeah. Its not the overall hole dimension size of the 90 degree elbow. It's the length of the 90 degree elbow from flange to flange, if that makes sense. It looks too long for even a full-size chicken to be able to stick their head and neck in to get feed.

    The coop build has begun!!

Thanks!! I've spent a lot of afternoons and evenings here lately trying to get it finished, including working out in the cold and crud trying to get it ready!

    The coop build has begun!!

The girls went in last night!! They seem to enjoy their new house! I have a few more minor things to do (finish buttoning up the run, add a tarp over part of it for additional shade), plus add a man door into the coop, but the girls are in the big house and happy. Yes they do have a waterer in...

    PLANTS POISONOUS TO CHICKENS

The reason why tomato and potato plants are poisonous to chickens and other livestock, is because they are in the nightshade family of plants. Ergo they have the same toxins in their plant matter, not the fruit.

    The coop build has begun!!

Its almost done! Just have to put some finishing touches on it tomorrow, and my babies will be ready for their new home! It was too dark to actually get pictures of the roost and poop tray inside. Tomorrow I just need to cut the hole out for the door, add hinges, lock, and handle, and presto...

    90 Degree Elbows

Where is everyone getting those thin looking 90 degree elbows? I've looked at both the big box home improvement stores, and the elbows there (3" ones look huge). Will my girls really be able to use it? Or do I need to cut the flange off one side? It just looks really big to me.

Well if she turns out to be a he, it'll either find a new home or end up in freezer camp.

    The coop build has begun!!

Yeah, I was measuring 16" OC from the right hand side going left....than realized I needed the man door.....so i got a small gap between two studs lol. Hardware cloth instead of soffit material is the plan, as is a couple of smaller pop out windows for ventilation.

Basically Finished getting the walls framed up and the roof on today before the majority of the rain hit. Theres some little blocks I need to install between the rafters to add some support for the tin along the line where I had to add another partial sheet. Questions, advice, suggestions are...

    The coop build has begun!!

This is facing North. It's going to hold the person size door and the pop door into the run. East Facing wall. I got two windows from the habitat Restore place for 8 bucks each. One is going on this wall, and the other on the south wall. They will hinge and fold downwards for ventilation...

    The coop build has begun!!

Basic framework? Nah. Actually building a shed/coop? yep. But I've watched A LOT of DIY network over the years to know what to get/NOT to get lol. I built a deck addition on the back of my house 2 summers ago. 16' square, 16" OC. That was fun (NOT). A lot of this lumber I sourced from the house...

    The coop build has begun!!

yes. 2x6's installed 24" OC. I decided not to go with 16" OC being as its chickens and not meant to hold people. I used regular joist hangars w/ nails.

    Dominique with no tail feathers

This might sound kind of odd, but could I have a dominique who's tail feathers have been plucked or pulled out by other chicks? I have 4 RIR, 2 Americaunas, and 2 Dominiques. One of my Dominiques has no tail feathers. She looks to be approximately the same age as everyone else, same size and...
