Ok. I'm a weird chicken keeper.

I've cleaned out my hen house this morning, I sit and talk to my lovely girls, they come to me to see what treats they're about to get and run off clucking happily when I did worms up for them. They don't come in the house but I go into theirs, they don't mind at all. If that's weird then I'm...

Ok. I'm a weird chicken keeper.

So why do you think yourself "weird"? I clean my birds out as soon as necessary, I give them treats most days, they have always got clean water and I say thank you to them when I collect their eggs. If that makes me weird then I guess I am, but its just how I like to treat them.

I don't know about ducks, but if you can sit with your ducks quietly and let them investigate you so that they know you are no threat to them and gradually offer food they should come to you. That's how I got my hens to eat out of my hand and they recognise me when I go near their run. Good luck...

Hi, I'm new to the site and a bit confused about where to put stuff.

I don't know how many eggs my girls will lay each year, but they are doing OK at the moment, three eggs a day from just three hens, I think that's great.

Topic of the Week - What is the purpose of your flock?

I keep my chickens mainly for the eggs, and I will keep them for the rest of their lives. I sit and talk to my girls, they eat out of my hand and give a shout when there is a new egg to be collected. I love my girls, these new ones are the fourth flock we have had, my children grew up with...

Hi, I'm new to the site and a bit confused about where to put stuff.

I am retired now, living in Derbyshire England with my husband, three dogs and my three new chickens. My birds are only 6 months old but laying well, they lay pale green eggs. The breeder told me that my girls would lay about 300 eggs a year each so I am using the eggs for cakes, meringues and...
