6/7 week old chicks suddenly falling ill and dying

Haven’t checked for lice or mites but will do that too. I have seen some powders for sale and some liquid form stuff to get rid and prevent mites. Which would be better? I didn’t think lice or mites could kill the chicks.

6/7 week old chicks suddenly falling ill and dying

Is it because they are cold that they are dying? They normally fell ill after there had been a cold night but they always sleep under their mums so I just don’t understand how they would have got cold when they have a hen to look after them. They are free range and I have noticed that the hens...

6/7 week old chicks suddenly falling ill and dying

Feeding Time is a bit crazy but their mothers scare the other flock members off if anything. They get to eat before all other flock members. I have seen other chickens try peck them when their mums aren’t near but normally they stick close to their mums. They don’t look injured to me but I’m not...

Can an Aseel rooster be kept with non game birds?

Today he had one eye slightly open and wound looks a bit better then before. He ignored the chicks that I placed near him (also have some chicks being hand reared about 4 weeks old). I think he’s too concussed to try woo the other hens and just ignored them but this evening he did manage to...

8 out of 16 eggs rotten!?!

Today is day 14 and I have 8 out of 16 left incubating. I had 8 from my brothers Aseel chickens and 8 from a friends hybrids. 7 of my brothers eggs ended up rotten starting from day 7 every day I’d find at least one rotten egg oozing some brown liquid and the smell was horrendous. Today one of...

Can an Aseel rooster be kept with non game birds?

All my hens are free ranging and this rooster has been in a pen all his life so not sure how he would adapt. Plan to keep him inside the shed but with mesh door so he can still see the other chickens and see how that goes. He’s still quite unwell so hoping once he’s on the mend he can go...

Hi everyone :thumbsup Il try keep this as short as possible! My brother owns some Aseel chickens, two cockerels running with 6 hens I think. The roosters are brothers and raised together and were totally fine together until this morning when he went to feed them he saw they were both not...

Just introduced lone chick to mother hens

Was a bloody disaster literally! I read how I should sit and listen to hear any loud cheeping etc, sat and listened and heard everything seemed ok for 20 mins so I went inside and came later to check and found the poor chick had been pecked on the head was bleeding and the hens were walking all...

Just introduced lone chick to mother hens

i had a lone chick hatch from a few abandoned eggs. Three hens all left their nest when one batch of eggs hatched leaving me with 2 abandoned nests. Those eggs went in incubator but I didn’t have broody box (unprepared) so my plan was to get the hens to adopt these chicks. The chicks they are...

    Unplanned staggered hatch in incubator!

So I’ve got a chick pipping! 3 days late but still alive! My question was as incubator is on lockdown if this chick hatches should I leave the incubator shut till Saturday? It won’t die of overheating etc will it? I know it can survive of yolk but wasn’t sure about temperature.

    Unplanned staggered hatch in incubator!

I’ve read how humidity should be kept high in last 3 days should I open the incubator to add any more water or try get more in at the beginning? I’ve got a sponge in there with water not sure how much of a difference it will make!

    Unplanned staggered hatch in incubator!

But if I stop turning the eggs that are due on Saturday whilst these ones over due hatch will that be damaging for saturdays eggs? Not sure if it makes sense.

    Unplanned staggered hatch in incubator!

Tried the tapping but got no response. I have noticed that they seem to sometimes move so I am hoping there is some life there! Just wasn't sure how long to wait and the longer I wait for them to hatch the less I can turn the other eggs, not sure how detrimental that would be.

    Hi new member here!

Hi everyone! I am a chicken enthusiast who enjoys the company of chickens and I am keen to gain some more knowledge from others who know more than I do! I have 3 old English game bantams that I adopted from my brother because they got attacked by his larger aseel chickens! These three hens are...

    Unplanned staggered hatch in incubator!

Hi everyone! I am new here and so sorry I haven’t done a proper introduction. Before coming to this site and joining I have tried to get advice off friends and Facebook etc but no one seems to really have an answer! I have 3 old English game hens. All three went broody a few days after each...
