Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

Mastered it? That’s something I have neither the time or inclination for. Sketchup is a really powerful tool but unfortunately a lot of the functions are unavailable in the free version. The living wall is a great idea! But I’d be a little worried that the climbing plants would damage the wood...

    How to secure window open?

What about lift-off hinges? I think I saw a coop on YouTube with these installed. You could just remove the windows panels entirely when you don’t need them. I found them in both horizontal and vertical orientations on Amazon. I’m thinking of using them but also somewhat afraid of misplacing...

Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

The concrete block is a good idea, I think I’ll put that into practice. As for the roosts, I’m undecided at the moment. I’m either doing two short ones using the wall supports on the long walls or one long roost using the supports from the short walls. Which do you think would be better? I’m...

Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

Okay, that’s reassuring. Thinking about starting the project sometime this weekend or the next. Hope to have any doubts out of the way before then.

Yeah, I lurked for a long time, reading before I decided to join. There’s a ton of information on here, some of it conflicting, but it’s definitely an invaluable resource for complete novices like me. (Still unclear on whether pressure treated wood is a good or bad choice for building coops. @_@)

Haha, isn’t that true of all pets? I doubt most animals would display a fraction of the affection they do their owners if there wasn’t food involved. Everything I’ve read about buff orpingtons suggests that they are basically super-chill, feathered plushies that let you love on them...

Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

Speaking of free stuff, I just learned that they give out free mulch around here. They will show up and dump it on your driveway if you ask for it, all for free! I thought it was an amazing deal until I realized that they dealt in a minimum of several cubic yards. Which is waaaaaay too much. As...

Nice! It’s good to know there’s a Bay Area presence on the forum. I seriously feel like an isolated case of chicken insanity when I decided I wanted them in the middle of suburbia. Um... right now me and my husband are looking at getting a Silver-laced Wyandotte, Ameraucana/Easter Egger, and a...

Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

Honestly, I’m a bit scared to at this point. :th But I’m guesstimating it at around $500. I’m trying to source some stuff from Freecycle. So far I got some free linoleum. Sigh. Pickings are kind of slim around here. The good stuff gets picked off really quick. The other day I saw a guy handing...

Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

I think you misunderstand. I never mentioned a pvc run. I plan to make a pvc feeder and watered such as this —> https://www.google.com/amp/www.instructables.com/id/PVC-Chicken-Feeder/?amp_page=true And stick it up in the open slots next to the flower box. I thought it would be nice to be able...

Hello from Northern California! :) Anyone else here from the Bay Area? Question, does anyone actually read these things? Anyway, chickens, yes? I have none at the moment but hope to soon, within the next month. Let’s hope I don’t screw this up too badly. Haha.

Need Advice for a Living Roof Coop

So, after my husband and I fatefully decided that we wanted to keep chickens, I scoured the internet for a nice coop. However, nothing seemed to meet my standards. For example, something that didn’t seem as if it would fall apart with a light tap or flip over with a soft breeze. (Amazon, you...
