    Hen pecking other hen’s comb

I kept her isolated for another 2 weeks, and then put the pinless peepers on her a couple days ago. So far so GREAT! Thank you for the recommendation! I’m getting ready to move the chicks to the isolated part of the coop, so I needed a safe way to introduce her back to the flock. Everyone...

    Dark comb but not frostbite?

I wanted to show these pictures from today… see what I mean how it seems to come and go? Today her comb looks much brighter. Granted this is in direct sunlight but it does look better. I sure hope she sticks around for years to come. I love my girls!

Yay, thank you! I hope she stays with us for a long time to come, but I will enjoy her while I can!

    Dark comb but not frostbite?

Yes, she still lays eggs. Not as frequently as she used to but I still get a few every week. And her comb has always been this large and floppy. She’s a leghorn. And I just realized she’s almost 4 years old. I went back and looked at pictures from last year and it looked a little dark then...

    Dark comb but not frostbite?

She is 3 years old, and 3 other chickens, all fine. The days have been in the upper 50’s, and in the last week it’s finally up in the 70’s. Just normal chilly spring weather. They are protected from rain and wind in their run, and have a nice big coop with ventilation all along the roof, and...

    Dark comb but not frostbite?

My chicken is acting normal, but her comb is turning dark. Some days it looks worse than others. I don’t know what I should be doing to help her? She doesn’t act sick but I think she probably is because of her comb. Here are some pictures from yesterday. During winter, her comb looked...

    Hen pecking other hen’s comb

The chicken in jail is the bully. She was in jail for 2 days and now back in a second time. I have not tried pinless peepers but I will look into that now!

    Hen pecking other hen’s comb

Our city doesn’t allow roosters in my neighborhood. I’m hoping to move in the next year or two to have more land and more animal rights. So I want to keep her until then if I can and then I could get a rooster.

    Hen pecking other hen’s comb

I have 4 hens, and am raising 3 more chicks to introduce this summer. I recently noticed one of my original 4 pecking at her buddy on the back of her comb when she was resting in the run. I made sure she stopped and then went on with my work in the coop. Fast forward to a few days ago and I...

Comment by 'jkwhiteley' in article 'Provo Utah Chicken Ordinance'

I wonder if the chicken run can extend to a property line, if the coop itself is still 15 feet away from the property line.

    Plastic/Resin coop and winter warmth

So, why do people insulate coops? I totally understand the release of moist warm air, but I thought you also want to have a coop that retains their body heat and I don’t know if the plastic walls will let cold air in or hold their warm air in? Maybe I’m asking wrong. lol.

    Plastic/Resin coop and winter warmth

I have been looking in the forums, and couldn’t find what I was looking for so I thought I’d just ask. Are plastic/resin garden sheds converted to a coop warm enough in the winter? I’m in central utah, and our winter temperatures average a low around 20 degrees, but there are days where it...

Wrong breed name from store... but what kind is it?

Maybe my darker chick is just a fun mix... which EE’s are, right? I was told it would lay blue/green eggs. Maybe it has that gene and is a mutt, thereby an Easter Egger? As for the golden one, I just hope she grows up to be sweet like she currently is, and lays brown/tan eggs.

And this one the chick in question when it was a baby right after we brought it home.

Wrong breed name from store... but what kind is it?

On April 10th, my kids and I picked out two more chicks. One we were told was a golden sex link, and the other was an Amerecauna. He also said they were commonly referred to as Easter Egg chickens. Not knowing better, I picked them out for their hen qualities and egg colors. We like to have...

    Bantam egg laying?

Yeah, I don’t care if she’s a good layer or not, I just want to make sure she’s not sick or something. I’m new to chickens (new mom to these chicks last May) and just want to make sure they are healthy.

    Bantam egg laying?

My sweet polish bantam laid her first tiny egg last week, and hasn’t laid since. Should I be worried?

    Horrible Air quality Fresno CA

I have an unhealthy air quality index where I live in Utah, and we’re told not to spend time outside. I’m so worried about my sweet chickens outside!
